1. Background
Habitat for Humanity International Nepal is an international non-governmental organization that is driven by the vision that everyone deserves a decent place to live. In Nepal, it addresses housing needs of low-income families through our partnership with homeowners, duty bearers, civil society, financial institutions, academia and relevant stakeholders. The organization serves people, families and communities that are at the bottom of the pyramid, by promoting greener, affordable and disaster resilient solutions and technologies for safe housing construction, advocating for land tenure security and joint land titles, and empowering communities at the risk of climate related disasters to apply local knowledge and practices for nature-based solutions. Through decent and adequate housing, it supports families to build strength, stability, and self-reliance.
Based on our analysis of the context in Nepal, we pay particular attention to gender equity and social inclusion in all our work. Responding to the root causes of inequity in the housing ecosystem, Habitat Nepal aims to support people – especially women - to thrive through housing by applying a people-centered approach i.e., putting people and their capabilities, vulnerabilities, voices and influence at the center of our work.
Globally ‘Build and Influence’ represents the evolution of Habitat’s strategic intent: to respond to the immediate challenges faced by billions of people across the globe in accessing adequate and affordable housing, while working to change the systems that allow the housing deficit to persist and grow. This is therefore merely not just measured through the number of homes we are able to build annually, but rather on transforming and expanding our work through effective collaboration and partnerships with homeowners, local NGO partners, public actors, and civil society. Our impacts are drawn through the changes we can realize across the broader spectrum of community social, economic and cultural well-being; women agency and leadership; better health and education; decent jobs and overall
Through this assignment, Habitat Nepal is seeking a media company to produce video(s) about the uses of bamboo in the construction of safe and durable housing in Nepal. Habitat Nepal is committed to promoting bamboo as a locally sourced, sustainable, and climate-resilient building material that can transform the way communities think about housing. Although bamboo has long been labeled the “poor man’s timber,” modern construction innovations like Cement Bamboo Frame Technology, or CBFT, have proven that bamboo can offer durable, safe, and low-maintenance housing solutions. Especially in districts like Jhapa, Udayapur, and Siraha, where bamboo is abundant, bamboo homes can provide an all-weather, climate-resilient alternative that challenges old perceptions and delivers lasting value for homeowners. This video aims to elevate bamboo’s image and make it an aspirational, smart choice for families ready to invest in a home that is both beautiful and resilient.
The video will serve as a promotional and educational tool designed specifically for potential end users: families in bamboo-rich areas who have the financial means to build but may not yet see bamboo as their material of choice. By showcasing success stories, the advantages of CBFT, and the aesthetic and practical benefits of bamboo homes, the video will help reposition bamboo as a material of pride and strength. The final product will be distributed across Habitat Nepal’s and its partners’ digital platforms, maximizing reach and engagement with the target audience and inspiring families to view bamboo not just as a traditional material, but as the future of safe, sustainable housing.
