About Sharecast Initiative Nepal

Sharecast Initiative Nepal is a not-for-profit organization founded in 2013 that specializes in media audience data, policy interventions through opinion polling and dissemination, podcasting, and other media content innovation in Nepal. Sharecast conducts annual media and opinion polls, market and other surveys to evaluate the impact of different strategies and gather evidence on knowledge, attitude, and practice campaigns. Sharecast uses quantitative and qualitative research tools to understand user insights, media content audiences, and public opinions.

Sharecast employs a rigorous quality control mechanism in data collection, utilizing face-to-face and telephone-based surveys. Sharecast Initiative Nepal initially began its operation as a media institution contributing to media innovation and capacity building of local radio stations. However, since 2020, the organization's focus has shifted to data to contribute to decision-making for both government and non-government sectors.

Position: Program and Research Officer 

Job Description

Sharecast Initiative Nepal (SCIN) seeks a Program and Research) Officer will support effective implementation of a research initiative to build evidence on media, user behaviors/practices, cross sectoral and lifecycle approaches to changing social norms.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Program and Research Officer (PRO) at Sharecast Initiative Nepal (SCIN) will support the effective implementation of a research initiative to build evidence on media, user behaviors/practices, cross-sectoral, and lifecycle approaches to changing social norms. The PRO will be responsible for leading and managing assigned projects related to research activities, partner coordination, work planning, reporting, communications, budget, and contracts/administration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to research including desk and literature review, key informant interviews, and surveys.
  • Coordinate technical advisory groups, including maintaining communication with group members, documenting consultations, identifying research questions, and sharing information.
  • Support preparation and implementation of research, including communicating with program and research partners, maintaining timelines and documentation of research activities, and planning for and supporting implementation of research.
  • Identify and explore opportunities for other research-related activities and support in proposal writing.
  • Oversee project coordination and partner collaboration to ensure timely communication, information sharing, and project implementation.
  • Coordinate and support work planning, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of contractual agreements with organizations and consultants; monitor, review, and manage approval of invoices.
  • Facilitate efficient communication with partners and consultants; establish and implement systems for partner, consultant, and field communication.
  • Participate in communicating the project's vision, activities, and research results; develop/review external-facing presentations, website content, blogs, briefs, and reports.
  • Writing publications for SCIN's website, including fact sheets, issue briefs, data briefs, infographics, blog posts, and reports.
  • Drafting presentations based on survey findings.
  • Attending and taking detailed notes at internal and external meetings and conferences.
  • Possible supervision of other staff depending on the level of experience.

Other Functions:

  • Support new business development initiatives as needed.
  • Represent SCIN at meetings and events.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in social sciences or a related field 
  • 3-5 years of experience implementing or managing research related programs as an Analyst/Researcher within a research/policy organization, NGO, think-tank, foundation, or consulting firm.
  • Prior academic and/or work experience in research, program management, and/or related field.
  • Strong project management skills and experience in conducting research, including key informant interviews and literature review.
  • Experience or interest in both program implementation and research activities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with data analysis software such as SPSS, STATA, or R is preferred.

This is a full-time, annual service contract position.
