Position: WASH Officer

Duty Station: Ruby Valley and Khaniyabas Rural Municipality, Dhading District

Reporting to: Program Coordinator

Offered Salary: Gross NPR. 72,685 per month (other benefits as per organizational policy)

Period of Engagement: 6 month (June to Dec of 2026)

1. Background

Karuna Shechen has been working with communities for more than 20 years to break the cycle of extreme poverty and create sustainable change. We believe in developing the full potential of women, men, and children in Nepal and India by addressing the root causes of poverty. Shechen Karuna Nepal has been working in Nepal since 2020 with the vision of creating a just society without poverty, where all women and men live with dignity and enjoy their rights as active citizens. Through integrated development programs, Shechen Karuna Nepal aims to improve health, education, livelihoods, environmental sustainability, and economic development while ensuring that interventions are inclusive, demand-driven, and sustainable.

2. Scope of Work

The WASH Officer will be responsible for facilitating and coordinating WASH-related activities in Ruby Valley and Khaniyabas RM.

3. Main Responsibilities

A. Total Sanitation Program Facilitation

  • Facilitate implementation of the Towards Total Sanitation campaign in targeted wards of Ruby Valley and Khaniyabas RM within 6 months of period. 
  • Coordinate with Rural Municipality, Ward Offices, WASH Coordination Committees, schools, health facilities, and community groups.
  • Conduct sanitation and hygiene awareness sessions at community level.
  • Support household-level sanitation improvements and promote behavior change. 
  • Facilitate meetings of Rural municipality and Ward WASH Coordination Committees and Tole Committees.
  • Support monitoring and verification processes related to total sanitation indicators.
  • Support the rural municipality WASH policy to promote clean and healthy villages.
  • Facilitate the process of village declarations of clean and healthy villages.

B. School WASH Program

  • Facilitate school-level WASH activities.
  • Conduct hygiene promotion sessions focusing on handwashing, personal hygiene, menstrual hygiene management, and environmental sanitation.
  • Support School WASH Clubs and child-led sanitation initiatives.
  • Support schools in maintaining child-friendly and gender-responsive WASH facilities.

C. Community Waste Management Activities

  • Facilitate community awareness programs on solid waste management.
  • Promote waste segregation, composting, recycling, and safe disposal practices.
  • Organize environmental sanitation campaigns and community clean-up events.

D. Capacity Building and Coordination

  • Facilitate orientation and capacity-building programs for community groups, WASH committees, schools, FCHVs, and local government representatives.
  • Strengthen coordination among stakeholders involved in WASH activities.

E. Monitoring, Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and activity reports.
  • Maintain records, photographs, attendance sheets, and success stories.
  • Conduct regular field monitoring and follow-up visits

F. Other Responsibilities

  • Support integrated activities under health, education, environment, and food security themes when required
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Public Health, Environmental Science, Rural Development, Social Work, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in WASH, sanitation, hygiene promotion, community mobilization, or related development programs.
  • Strong facilitation, coordination, documentation, and reporting skills.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
