Position Title: Senior Project Assistant

Duty Station: Kathmandu, Nepal

Classification: General Service Staff, Grade 6

Type of Appointment: Special Short Term, six months with possibility of  extension

Context:

Under the overall supervision of Chief of Mission, project guidance and supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer, International Migration Health Physician, & direct supervision of Migration Health Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing standard support in the daily implementation of the TB REACH project in Nepal.

The TB REACH project aims at early and improved Tuberculosis (TB) case detection and treatment among migrants and their families in provinces 1, 2 and 3 of Nepal through Public Private Mix (PPM) Approach.

In particular, she/he will carry out the following duties and responsibilities:

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Provide specialized assistance in planning and implementation of both administrative and operational activities of TB REACH project.

  2. Liaise and coordinate with the technical working group comprising representatives from Ministry of Health and Population, National TB Programme, World Health Organization, Ministry of Labour Employment and Social Security and its Department of Foreign Employment Association and network of pre-departure health assessment centres and other stakeholders working in the field of migration health and tuberculosis.

  3. Coordinate with the staffs from selected health assessment centers, GeneXpert Centers/Microscopic Centers and laboratory team at IOM Nepal and get support in the implementation of project activities. 

  4. Implement the systemic monitoring and evaluation at the project sites.

  5. Implement and monitor the compliance of both administrative and technical SOPs governing case referral, sputum collection/packaging, transportation and reporting of result, data collection.

  6. Assist in designing of a database; collect data in a timely and accurate manner; participate in the data analysis.

  7. Assist in the development of information and communication materials (such as leaflets, brochures, promotional items, radio spots etc.)

  8. Ensure that the stock management of supplies at TB REACH store and arrange supply of logistics such as sputum containers, zip lock bags, stationaries etc. to sputum collection sites from the office and to the field workers.

  9. Organize and manage coordination meetings, workshops, and training within the project areas.

  10. Draft project related reports for IOM and donors.

  11. Assist in the project/ proposal development process as required.

  12. Supervise, train and guide other staff in the unit.

  13. Assist in the development of research protocol and review of report shared by research agency/researcher.

  14. Perform other duties that may be assigned by Migration Health Officer.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Social Sciences or related discipline from an accredited academic institution with 4 years of relevant work experience;

OR

·         High School Degree in above field with 6 years of relevant work experience.

Experience

  1. Past experience in tuberculosis control programme, public health or migration health;

  2. Past experience in project activities tracking, monitoring and reporting;

  3. Ability to use own initiative and work under pressure with minimum supervision;

  4. Strong interpersonal, coordination and communication skills;

  5. Excellent computer skills - Word, Excel, Internet, Statistical analysis using Software, Internet;

  6. Attention to detail and ability to organize;

  7. Self-motivated and objective driven. 

Languages

Fluency in English, Nepali is required.
