Nepal Institute of Mental Health (NIOMH) is a newly established non-profit organization, registered in Nepal. NIOMH is laid on the principles and practices of implementing comprehensive approaches to sustainable developmental goals. This combined public and mental health initiative will focus on several key areas such as providing specialist mental health and primary care integrated service delivery, capacity building, mental health research, awareness generation, advocacy, and promotion of rights-based mental health care, with aims to make a strong impact in reducing the mental health care gap in Nepal. The overarching mission of the program is to provide quality mental health care accessible to all and by involving all. The program strives to include members from several disciplines, most prominent of which will be professionals from public health and mental health as well as non-mental health specialist health workers and people with lived experience of mental health. The organization consists of team members from several health and public service fields including public health professionals, psychologists, psychiatrists, general physicians, social workers, nurses, and community health workers wording in Nepal and globally.

Nepal Institute of Mental Health (NIOMH) is a non-governmental and nonprofit national-level organization established by physicians, mental health practitioners, and public health experts with the vision of developing and strengthening a sustainable, inclusive, and accessible regional mental health ecosystem in Nepal. The organization focuses on leading clinical, training, research, public health, and advocacy activities to improve mental health services in Nepal. We are implementing comprehensive integrated mental healthcare programs in Chitwan District. We are currently recruiting the following professionals based in Chitwan having duty station Bharatpur -1, Chitwan:

Manavsewa Ashram, a non-profit social organization, is dedicated to making Nepal a "street people free country." The organization provides shelter and care for vulnerable individuals who are homeless, disabled, or facing physical or psychological challenges. These individuals are often forced to endure difficult lives on the streets.

To enhance its services, Manavsewa Ashram is collaborating with the Nepal Institute of Mental Health (NIOMH) to provide comprehensive mental health care to residents in its shelters across Nepal.

Manavsewa Ashwam is currently seeking a dynamic and professional psychologist to coordinate this mental health program based in Kathmandu office.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage, lead, and oversee the overall activities of the Mental Health Clinic in Bharatpur, Chitwan, to strengthen its services.
  • Assess cases of mental health issues, develop an intervention plan, and provide mental health counseling services through the clinic in Chitwan.
  • Assess local needs, plan, and execute mental health programs, including the smooth operation of the clinic.
  • Conduct field visits to assess mental health cases in the local community and coordinate/liaise with relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop an operational plan to implement community mental health programs and collaborate with government authorities and related stakeholders as mandated by the organization.
  • Participate in community activities and provide on-site coaching, feedback, and support in field-level activities.
  • Develop an operational plan and implement upcoming mental health programs, performing multitasking activities as assigned.

The psychologist will be responsible for a wide range of duties to ensure the effective management of the mental health program for shelter residents. These responsibilities include:

  • Program Coordination: Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the mental health program, ensuring its alignment with the goals of both Manavsewa Ashram and NIOMH.
  • Case Management: Providing direct psychological support, conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and monitoring the progress of residents.
  • Training and Supervision: Training and supervising staff and volunteers on best practices for supporting the mental health of residents.
  • Advocacy and Outreach: Advocating for the mental health needs of the resident population and collaborating with external partners to expand resources and services.
  • Data and Reporting: Maintaining accurate records and preparing reports on program activities, outcomes, and challenges to inform future initiatives.
Qualifications:Master's degree in Clinical/Counseling Psychology or an equivalent degree with two years of counseling and program implementation experience. A health-related background is preferred.
