The Centre for Mental Health and Counselling – Nepal (CMC-Nepal), a national level NGO dedicated to promoting mental health and psychosocial well-being, is pleased to announce a call for applications in its project, called Karnali Mental Health Program (KMHP), implemented in Surkhet, Dailekh and Rukum (West) from March 2023, funded and supported by CBM Global. This program contributes in formation of Inclusive community where persons with and at-risk of mental health access to quality MHPSS services, government entitlements and meaningful participation conditions and psychosocial disability enjoy independent life and are included in the community on an equal basis. Its specific objective is to ensure that persons with or at-risk of mental health conditions and psychosocial disability have improved participation in the community forum in Surkhet, Dailekh and Rukum (West) by 2025.
It therefore seeks candidates for the following positions:
1. Mental Health Coordinator- 1 full-time position, based in Provincial Office Surkhet with field visits to project areas) is responsible for training and supervision of the health care service providers in mental health and psychosocial interventions, support Psychosocial Counsellors/Mental Health Social Workers (MHSW) in conducting mental health and psychosocial awareness activities, strengthening mental health service system and empowerment of mental health self-help groups and promotion of disability inclusion at community and local level.
Duties and responsibilities for the position:
- Conduct mental health and psychosocial support training to the health service providers and clinical mentoring and supervision.
- Work closely with the psychiatrist of CMC-Nepal and others outside CMC-Nepal and facilitate for clinical supervision and mentoring at health facility and remote supervision.
- Build the capacity of Community Based Psychosocial Workers (CPSW), Mental Health Social Workers (MHSW), Psychosocial Counsellors and other staff on MHPSS, rights of person with disability and right-based approach in mental health.
- Support and monitor recording of data of mental health service provided in HMIS and DHIS-2 and work closely with District Health Service Office, Provincial Health Directorate, Province Health Logistic Management Centre and Ministry of Social Development for integration of mental health into the existing health delivery system.
- Provide technical and backstopping support in formation of Self-Help Groups, empower them for policy advocacy at local level for mainstreaming mental health and disability inclusion.
- Build the capacity of Mental Health Social Worker and Psychosocial Counsellors to facilitate orientation and workshop for persons with mental health conditions and psychosocial disabilities and their families, OPDs, HFOMC, FCHVs, MCHW, women cooperatives, traditional healers, mother groups, pregnant women and lactating mothers.
- Develop training and behavior change materials in mental health and psychosocial counselling, learning document and prepare human interest story.
Qualification and experience requirements:
- Proficiency Certificate Level in General Medicine (Health Assistant) or MBBS with mhGAP module 2 along with MPH or Master degree in Psychiatry Nursing or M.Phil Clinical Psychology or MD in Psychiatry from the recognized University.
- 5 years working experience in community based mental health and psychosocial support program, working health service providers, psychosocial counsellors, MHSW, Self-Help Groups and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities
- Having practical and strong background in training and supervising health workers in mental health and psychosocial skills, and further enhancing supervisory roles of psychosocial counsellors and MHSW in psychosocial counselling. Candidate having ToT training in psychosocial counselling and mhGAP from NHTC will have preference
- Having good comprehension and learning attitude in mental health, psychosocial interventions and disability inclusion
- Experience in coordination with multi-stakeholders (GOs/I/NGOs/OPDs) for the effectiveness of implementation of the project activities and its upscaling and sustainability
- Strong coordination, networking and facilitation skills
- Good report writing, documentation and communication skills in both English and Nepali
- Computer Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel, data management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships within and outside the organization
