VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Oxfam is responding in these areas: Gorkha, Nuwakot, Dhading, Sindhupalchowk, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur. We are urgently looking for dynamic team players in the following positions for our response programme.

 1) Media and Communications Lead - One year fixed term contract based in Kathmandu.

 Key Responsibilities: This position will need to contribute to the development of gender-sensitive media and communications strategies, plan and implement the same to support the ongoing humanitarian Earthquake response and the country programme. You will be responsible for writing the media and communication products i.e. press releases, case studies etc., coordinate with the Earthquake response team and the country programme in gathering stories/ information that supports and provides evidence for our advocacy asks, organise communications-related visits and tours for staff, partners, media and; monitors and shares Oxfam media hits, providing regular reports and analysis of Oxfam’s media coverage.

 Requirements: Master’s degree in communications or related field with at least 3 years of experience gained within a civil society organisation, media, communications or public relations team. Strong knowledge of Nepal’s development issues and concerns including gender issues.

 

2) Shelter Officer - 6 months fixed term contract based in Gorkha.

 Key Responsibilities: This position will be responsible for ensuring successful implementation of Oxfam’s emergency shelter program in Gorkha. You will be responsible for planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of all shelter activities in Gorkha. You will be working with partner organizations and will provide technical inputs, as well as take concrete steps for capacity building. You will be conducting assessments and analysis as required and coordinate with other sectors. You will, among others, be placing procurement orders, design methodologies, conduct community group discussions, raise awareness on safe building practices, carry out day-to-day monitoring, etc. and will take up additional requests if needs arise. 

 Requirements: Suitable qualification in architecture / construction management / civil engineering or related field with at least 2 years’ practical experience in humanitarian and reconstruction context. Proven practical experience with emergency and transitional shelters is required, along with a sound knowledge of the market prices and specifications of construction materials.

 

3) Policy Advocacy Advisor– 6 months fixed term contract based in Kathmandu.

 Key Responsibilities: This position will lead in the development of policy and advocacy strategies for rights in crisis issues in the Nepal Earthquake Response, increasing Oxfam’s ability to influence policies and practices at national and sub-national level. You will require to develop and maintain external relations with key/high level stakeholders, including  Nepal  officials (at regional, provincial and local government levels) and UN staff and represent Oxfam at high level meetings and support program managers in the developing a sound political analysis of the local context including the dynamics between key actors. You will also be responsible to support the development and delivery of Oxfam’s advocacy plans and strategies at the field/ local level.

 Requirements: Knowledge of Nepal development issues and concerns, specifically those pertaining to DRR and climate change, agriculture and land rights,  and gender equity issues ; strong analytical skills and ability to think strategically, including the ability to think beyond the country programme context and to act within a regional framework At least 3 years of relevant experience, with proven project management skills in developing and implementing successful policy, research and/or advocacy and projects.

 

All candidates will have strong organization skills, ability to work effectively in a difficult environment and be flexible in demanding situations. You will have proficiency in English and good interpersonal and team working skills especially in emergency mode. Your commitment to the values of Oxfam including gender equity in all that we do is essential.
