'Upscaling Pollination to Enhance Biodiversity and Human Welfare in Nepal' is a four-year consortium project funded by the UK Government’s Darwin Initiatives, led by the University of Bristol (UK), and being implemented in Nepal by Local Initiatives for Biodiversity, Research and Development (LI-BIRD), HERD International, Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) and Tribhuvan University (TU) starting from October 2025. This project will be implemented in parts of Karnali, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces in partnership with Department of Agriculture, Provincial Ministries of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperative (MoLMAC), Federation of Nepalese Beekeepers (FNBK) and International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). The project aims to improve conservation and management of pollinators across Nepal and the Himalayan region leading to healthier communities, economies and ecosystems.
LI-BIRD invites applications from eligible and qualified Nepali citizens who are committed and have the ability to deliver results with the highest integrity for the following positions.
1. Pollination Management Officer (Level 8) - (1): To be based at Birendranagar, Surkhet
Job Summary: Reporting to the Project Leader, the Pollination Management Officer (PMO) will be responsible for the overall project planning and implementation, coordination and collaboration with project consortium partners and local stakeholders. The PMO’s key duties include coordinating cluster level project planning and implementation; monitoring and quality control at field level; capacity building of the project staff; support on organizing training and workshops; data collection and management; and technical progress report writing. The PMO should ensure the project is being implemented as per the project’s overall project goal, objectives, and outcomes. The PMO is also responsible for coordination with the provincial and local governments and district line agencies and other key stakeholders to ensure adequate programme synergies, resource leveraging and scaling-up of the potential innovations.
Education and Experience: Master’s Degree in Agroecology, Agriculture Economics, Entomology or other similar disciplines with five years of relevant experience. Candidates with work experience in bee keeping promotion and value chain development, pollinator conservation or other agroecosystem management and policy discourse related projects in the implementation and reporting of projects are encouraged to apply.
2. Safeguarding Officer (Level 7) - (1): (Women only, to be based at Head Office, Pokhara)
Job Summary: Reporting to the Project Leader, the Safeguarding Officer (SO) will closely work with Organizational Safeguarding Focal Person and will be responsible to ensure safeguarding principles and practices are effectively integrated across all project activities, partners, and stakeholders. SO’s role includes leading the implementation and oversight of the project’s Safeguarding and Complaint, Feedback, and Response Mechanism (CFRM) across all consortium partners, and ensuring that procedures are confidentially managed, continuously improved, and complaint are handled and documented as per organizational and donor guidelines. The SO will coordinate safeguarding initiatives, support capacity building, documentation, reporting, and monitoring efforts, and ensure adherence to LI-BIRD's and Darwin Initiative’s safeguarding policies. The position upholds the highest standards for preventing sexual exploitation, abuse, harassment, and other forms of harm to children and vulnerable adults, while promoting accountability and community trust across all project components.
Education and Experience: Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Sociology, Social Work, Development Studies, Psychology, Law, or other relevant disciplines, with two years of relevant experience in safeguarding, child protection, gender equality, or protection-related roles within the development sector (NGOs or INGOs). Candidates holding Bachelor's degree in the above-mentioned areas with four years of relevant experience are also eligible.
3. Communications Officer (Level 7) - (1): (Women only, to be based at Programme Coordination Office, Sanepa, Lalitpur)
Job Summary: Reporting to the Project Leader, The Communications Officer will be responsible for strengthening the visibility, outreach, and impact of the project and the organization. The position will lead project-level communication and support for strengthening organizational communication functions. The Communications Officer’s duty includes planning, producing, and managing content across print, digital, audio-visual and multimedia; documenting and disseminating learnings, success stories and good or best practices generated by projects and programmes; managing organizational engagement and outreach with media; and ensuring effective knowledge sharing within organizations, partners, project consortium and beyond. The Communications Officer is also responsible to ensure consistent application of the respective project and LI-BIRD's branding and visibility standards across all communication initiatives.
Education and Experience: Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Mass Communication, Journalism, Development Communication, or Media Studies with three years of relevant professional experience in communication, outreach, or knowledge management work within NGO/INGO or development organizations. Proven experience and skills in digital, and audio-visual media production along with strong writing, editing and translation skills in English and Nepali language will be considered an added advantage.
4. Beekeeping Officer (Level 7) - (3): One each to be based at Jajarkot, West-Rukum and Tanahun
Job Summary: Reporting to the Pollination Management Officer, the Beekeeping Officer will play a key technical and coordinating role in promoting sustainable and biodiversity-friendly beekeeping practices among farmers, farmer’s groups, cooperatives, and community-based organizations in the target provinces. The Beekeeping Officer will ensure effective implementation of field activities related to pollination services, honeybee management, and farmer capacity enhancement, contributing to improved agricultural productivity, biodiversity conservation, and rural income generation.
Education and Experience: Master’s degree in Agriculture (Specialization in entomology preferred) with two years of work experience or Bachelor's degree in Agriculture with four years of experience in beekeeping promotion, pollination management, agricultural value chain development or agricultural extension. Candidates with a valid motorbike/scooter license and work experience in the implementation and reporting of projects are encouraged to apply.
5. Senior Technical Assistant (Level 5) - (1): To be based at Jajarkot
Job Summary: The Senior Technical Assistant (STA) reports to Beekeeping Officer and is responsible for implementing day-to-day field level activities. S/he needs to work closely with the farmers and local stakeholders to plan, coordinate, and implement project activities at the community level. The Senior Technical Assistant needs to liaise and maintain good working relations with beneficiaries, partners, and stakeholders at the local level.
Education and Experience: Intermediate in Agriculture or JT/ JTA course from a recognized institute with five years of field experience in a rural setting with exposure to agriculture-based research, beekeeping promotion, and value chain development programmes. Candidates with valid motorbike/scooter license are encouraged to apply.
