Dalit Jan Kalyan Yuba Club (DJKYC) is a local non-profit and non-political organization based in Bastipur (Pradip Giri Ashram), Ward 14, working towards eliminating discrimination and improving the well-being of women and children. DJKYC also focuses on improving Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities in Lahan UM. DJKYC has been working in different Nepali communities since its establishment in 2000 AD.

The Beacon Project is a joint initiative supported by Anglian Water and WaterAid Nepal (WAN), implemented in collaboration with DJKYC (Dalit Jan Kalyan Yuba Club) Lahan. Key partners include Nepal Water Supply Corporation (NWSC) and Lahan Municipality. The project focuses on delivering impactful WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) interventions, promoting health and hygiene awareness, improving water supply systems, and fostering community engagement, particularly among Dalit , poor & marginalized groups, to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).

Sanitation Campaign Coordinator–1 ( DJKYC-Lahan Municipality)

Position Title: Sanitation Campaign Coordinator

Location: DJKYC, Lahan Municipality, Nepal

Reports To: Executive Director (direct), with functional reporting to Project Manager(DJKYC) and Sanitation Expert (WaterAid Nepal). 

Duty Station: Lahan Municipality (with frequent field travel to wards/settlements)

Contract Type: Project-based, with possibility of extension based on performance and funding

About the role:

The Sanitation Campaign Coordinator will play a key role in driving community engagement and behavior change to support activities under the sanitation campaign. The position focuses on mobilizing households, schools, community groups, and local leaders toreinstate and sustain the Open Defecation Free (ODF) status in the communities, adopt sustainable sanitation and hygiene practices, and build community ownership for long-term change.

Job Description:

1. Coordination & Communication:

  • Coordinate with Municipality specially in WASH Unit and partners for project sharing and insure to smoothly running the program in time.
  • Coordinate with ward chairpersons, health workers, teachers, women’s groups, FCHVs, HMGs, and CBOs to integrate sanitation messages into community structures.
  • Form and facilitate ward/community-level meetings and strengthen linkages with local government, MWACC/WWACC, and civil society networks.
  • Work in close collaboration with WaterAid Nepal Beacon Team, DJKYC staff, and partners for harmonized implementation.
  • Uphold DJKYC’s safeguarding, gender equality, and Do No Harm commitments in all engagements.

2.Technical Support:

  • Provide guidance on toilet construction, repair, and low-cost models.
  • Train community members, youth volunteers, and local masons in sanitation technologies.
  • Monitor functionality, quality, and sustainability of constructed toilets.
  • Ensure technical support aligns with municipality/WASH guidelines and standards.
  • Assist households in selecting appropriate toilet models based on local context and affordability.

3. Community Mobilization & Engagement:

  • Facilitate community engagement and awareness campaigns to support sanitation campaign implementation.
  • Identify and follow up with slippage households (those reverting to OD) to ensure toilet reconstruction/repair and sustained toilet-use practices.
  • Mobilize local resources and strengthen community ownership to sustain ODF (Open Defecation Free) status.
  • Promote health and hygiene behavior change through household visits, demonstrations, and dialogues to encourage consistent toilet use and improved hygiene practices.
  • Ensure inclusion and equity by engaging women, youth, and marginalized groups in sanitation activities.
  • Support households in constructing self-resourced toilets.
  • Provide technical support during sanitation-related emergencies (e.g., diarrheal outbreaks, floods).

4. Monitoring & Supervision:

  • Supervise and mentor , sanitation activists and youth volunteers/ambassadors , ensuring quality facilitation and achievement of targets.
  • Track and analyze progress of household sanitation practices, including slippage cases and adoption of toilet use.
  • Compile ward-level data and submit timely updates to the WASH Unit and partners.
  • Use m-Water and NWSAH applications for data collection, monitoring, and reporting.

5. Budgeting & Planning:

  • Support municipality in sanitation campaign planning and budgeting.
  • Facilitate allocation and mobilization of local government and external resources for sanitation sustainability.
  • Contribute to participatory planning with community stakeholders to align with municipal WASH priorities.

6. Capacity Building & Training: 

  • Organize training, workshops, and participatory learning sessions for local groups, schools, and stakeholders.
  • Strengthen the capacity of FCHVs, HMGs, and youth groups to lead sanitation initiatives.

7. Reporting & Documentation:

  • Prepare and submit high-quality concept notes, event reports, monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and annual reportsin line with DJKYC/WAN requirements.
  • Document and disseminate success stories, case studies, lessons learned, and best practices at ward, municipal, and provincial levels.
  • Report specifically on slippage households, toilet reconstruction/repair progress, and adoption of toilet-use practices.
  • Contribute to knowledge products, manuals, and policy briefs for wider learning and advocacy.

8. Visibility, Branding & Media Mobilization:

  • Ensure compliance with donor and organizational visibility and branding guidelines in all community-level campaigns, IEC materials, and events.
  • Support to mobilize local and national media (print, FM radio, television) to amplify sanitation messages and project achievements.
  • Manage social media content creation and dissemination in coordination with DJKYC/WAN communications teams.
  • Support the development and dissemination of IEC publications, newsletters, and media briefs for awareness and outreach.

9. Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineer /Social Work, Sociology, Development Studies, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 4–6 years’ experience in community mobilization and behavior change, preferably in WASH programs.
  • Proven leadership in designing and implementing sanitation campaigns and mobilizing community/government resources.
  • Experience in training, mentoring, and capacity building of community workers and volunteers.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with ability to engage diverse and marginalized groups.
  • Familiarity with local governance structures, ward-level planning, and CBO engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, achieve targets, and manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, data entry tools).
  • Familiar with m-Water and NWASH application.
  • Fluency in Nepali and Maithili; proficiency in English desirable.

Job Description

Position Title: Admin and Finance Associate

Project: The Beacon Project

Reports to:  Finance & Admin Officer 

Duty Station: DJKYC Office , Gudigaun ,Lahan Municipality-10 , Siraha District

Duration: One Year (with possibility of extension based on performance and project funding)

1. Purpose of the Position

The Admin and Finance Associate will provide financial, administrative, and logistical support to The Beacon Project, ensuring transparent financial management, smooth day-to-day operations, and compliance with organizational and donor policies. The position plays a key role in supporting project implementation by maintaining accurate financial systems and effective administrative functions.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Financial Management

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for The Beacon Project.
  • Prepare vouchers, journal entries, and ensure timely posting into the accounting system.
  • Support budget preparation, expenditure tracking, and variance analysis for the project.
  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for DJKYC and donor submission.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies of DJKYC, WaterAid Nepal, and relevant statutory regulations.
  • Handle petty cash and reconcile regularly.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing financial documents and clarifications.

B. Administration & Logistics

  • Support recruitment and HR documentation for The Beacon Project team.
  • Maintain personnel files, leave records, and attendance of project staff.
  • Oversee office administration including supplies, utilities, maintenance, and record-keeping.
  • Manage procurement for the project in line with organizational policies: request for quotations, bid evaluation, purchase orders, and vendor management.
  • Provide logistical support for meetings, workshops, trainings, and field visits.
  • Maintain records of project assets, inventories, and office equipment.

C. Coordination & Compliance

  • Liaise with banks, vendors, government offices, and stakeholders as required for The Beacon Project.
  • Ensure compliance with HR, procurement, and finance guidelines of DJKYC and WaterAid Nepal.
  • Support project teams with administrative and financial tasks during field implementation.

3. Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Certificate level or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, related field.
  • Minimum 3 -5 years of relevant experience in finance and administration, preferably in NGO/INGO or development projects.
  • Good knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budget management.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Tally, FAMAS, QuickBooks, and web Software) and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Sanitation Campaign Activist / Social Mobilizer

About the role:

The Sanitation Activist will play a key role in supporting through social mobilization for achieving household-level toilet coverage among poor and marginalized community in Lahan Municipality’s sanitation campaign by engaging communities, mobilizing youth volunteers, and promoting sanitation and hygiene behavior change. The role will strengthen the participation of marginalized households, schools, youth, women, and support groups to ensure sustained improvement in sanitation practices and open defecation free (ODF) progress, and strengthen hygiene practices, and improve WASH behavioursthrough community engagement, hygiene promotion, and technical support.

 Specific Job Description: 

1. Coordination and Communication:

  • Coordinate with ward chairpersons, schools, local health care facilities, Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs), Health Mothers Groups (HMGs), social influential networks, and CBOs.
  • Maintain regular communication with DJKYC/WAN supervisors and municipal WASH units.
  • Share progress, challenges, and good practices with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective coordination for mobilization, technical support, and monitoring activities.

2. Mobilization & Facilitation :

  • Trigger households to construct toilets, focusing on poor and marginalized communities.
  • Facilitate Year 1 self-construction and Year 2 co-finance support for ultra-poor or landless households.
  • Engage youth, women, and local groups to actively participate in sanitation campaigns.
  • Organize ward-level campaigns, community dialogues, awareness events, and rallies.
  • Facilitate regular meetings, sharing sessions, and learning exchanges at community, ward, and municipal levels.
  • Support the formation and strengthening of local sanitation committees and women’s groups.
  • Encourage community ownership and participation to sustain ODF practices.

3. Behavior Change & Hygiene Promotion: 

  • Conduct hygiene behavior change (HBC) sessions in schools, households, and communities.
  • Promote toilet use, handwashing, and safe sanitation practices.
  • Address social stigma, cultural practices, and misconceptions related to sanitation.
  • Encourage adoption of inclusive hygiene practices among children, women, and marginalized groups.
  • Reinforce linkage between sanitation, health, and disease prevention.

4. Technical Support:

  • Support to provide guidance on toilet construction, repair, and low-cost models.

  • Maintain photo, video, and written evidence for ODF verification and reporting.
  • Support regular monitoring visits and provide recommendations to improve interventions.
  • Track behavioral change indicators and participation levels in sanitation campaigns.

6. Target Setting & Reporting:

  • Set monthly household coverage targets (toilet construction, repair, and use).
  • Track progress against targets and report to supervisors and municipal WASH units.
  • Document and report good practices, case stories, and lessons learned from campaign activities.
  • Prepare timely event reports, monthly progress reports, and updates for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to planning and evaluation of ward- and municipality-level sanitation campaigns.
  • Support data-driven decision-making to ensure equitable coverage and inclusion.

7. Visibility, Branding & Media Mobilization :

  • Document and showcase campaign activities through photos, videos, and success stories.
  • Share information with local media, social media, and community newsletters.
  • Promote DJKYC/WAN initiatives to increase awareness and community participation.
  • Highlight progress, innovations, and achievements in household toilet coverage.

8. Position Types & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Social Work, Public Health, Nursing, Sociology and 2 years' Social campaign mobilization experience or related Intermediate considered; 4 years or above, Social Campaign mobilization experience.
  • Experience working with poor &marginalized communities, schools, HCF and local government stakeholders.

9. Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong facilitation, negotiation, and interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to engage and motivate households and local groups.
  • Data collection, reporting, and basic computer skills (Word, Excel, mobile apps).
  • Fluency in Maithili, Nepali, and local languages.
  • Result-oriented, flexible, and able to work independently in field conditions.

10. Working Conditions:
