Advocacy Forum-Nepal (AF) is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation focused on promoting human rights, justice, and the rule of law in Nepal. AF is looking for dynamic and result-oriented Nepali citizens for the following three positions:
1. Program Coordinator: Transitional Justice and Accountability Department
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of AF’s project activities in upholding human rights and the rule of law in the field of transitional justice and accountability.
LOCATION: Head Office, Kathmandu
Required Experience and Qualifications
- A Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in law and human rights or a related field, peace studies,
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior position working on issues of transitional justice, accountability, or access to justice,
- An excellent understanding of national and international law related to transitional justice, the current human rights and political context, rule of law issues at the federal and provincial levels,
- Experience with outreach and coordination with government authorities, civil society, the victims’ community, police officers, media, international organisations, and other relevant stakeholders
- Experience with designing and executing advocacy-related activities and leading internal capacity-building initiatives,
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Experience and a driven interest in conducting research, drafting project reports, advocacy letters, and case stories,
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, both in English and Nepali, with translation capabilities to and from both languages,
- Ability to work under pressure, in diverse teams, and with flexible schedules,
- Proficient computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), particularly an ability to prepare project-related databases, utilise monitoring tools, store and analyse project-related data in Excel or other software,
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
(1) Project Planning and Implementation:
- Lead, design, and implement project activities within the Transitional Justice and Accountability department as the lead project coordinator,
- Develop advocacy strategies and work plans in targeted provinces, municipalities, and at the federal level
- Document results, case studies, and lessons learnt to ensure activities are implemented according to plan and budget and effectively communicated to internal and external audiences
(2) Stakeholder Engagement and Representation
- Identify, liaise with, and maintain relationships with government authorities, partner CSOs, victims’ organisations, and other relevant actors,
- Represent AF at provincial and national forums and coordination meetings,
- Develop the content and modality of consultation with stakeholders,
(3) Research, Monitoring, and Reporting
- Conduct research and publication work related to human rights and the rule of law,
- Prepare and submit periodic reports to relevant authorities and donors,
- Develop monitoring tools and formats to collect quantitative and qualitative data on the project’s progress at the provincial and federal levels,
- Assist the AF team in designing and writing project proposals to the donors,
- Plan and organise trainings, stakeholder meetings, project-related programs, and field missions,
2. Program Officer: Women, Peace and Security and Protection of Human Rights Defenders
Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator for Transitional Justice and Accountability, the Program Officer will support the effective implementation of AF’s initiatives on Women, Peace and Security and the protection of Human Rights Defenders, with a focus on advancing gender justice, safeguarding civic space, and strengthening the rule of law.
LOCATION: Head Office, Kathmandu
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Educational background in law and human rights; Bachelor’s Degree with 3 years’ experience in the relevant field or Master’s Degree with at least 1 year’s work experience in the relevant field
- Background in gender related issues, protection of human rights defenders, national and international human rights, and the rule of law issues,
- Experience writing advocacy letters, event reports, project reports, case stories, etc., in English and Nepali.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Good knowledge of the current human rights and political context, emerging human rights and rule of law issues at the local, national, and international levels, gender-based violence, the protection of human rights defenders, and access to justice,
- Capable of working under pressure, in diverse teams, and with flexible schedules,
- Excellent oral and written communication skills both in English and Nepali,
- Proficient computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), particularly an ability to prepare project-related databases, utilise monitoring tools, store and analyse project-related data in Excel or other software.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Liaise and coordinate with government authorities, partner organisations, and stakeholders,
- Interview victims and victims’ family members, document and archive human rights violations, and conduct necessary intervention,
- Develop strategies for strategic litigation and advocacy on emblematic human rights cases,
- Plan and implement project activities, including regular coordination with provincial team(s), conducting project-related research, contributing to publications, and preparing reports for government authorities, partner organisations, and donors.
- Conduct research and publication work related to human rights and the rule of law,
- Prepare and submit periodic reports to relevant authorities and donors,
- Develop monitoring tools and formats to collect quantitative and qualitative data on the project’s progress at the provincial and federal levels,
- Assist the AF team in designing and writing project proposals to the donors,
- Plan and organise trainings, stakeholder meetings, project-related programs, and field missions,
3. Documentation and Communication Officer
Under the supervision of the Media and Communication Officer, the Documentation and Communication Officer will lead and develop media engagement strategies and policies to increase the visibility of AF’s activities. The Media and Communication Officer acts as a centre of expertise on social media at AF, providing training, advice, and guidance to colleagues across the office.
LOCATION: Head Office, Kathmandu
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communication or a relevant social science with 3 years of relevant experience in media, communications, and advocacy work, or a Master’s Degree with at least 1 year’s work experience in the relevant field.
- Experience with writing feature articles, filmmaking, photography, storytelling, or post-production editing.
- Experience with computer programs, design and editing tools, and handling web-based management systems
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Good knowledge of the current human rights and political context, emerging human-rights and rule-of-law issues at the local, provincial, and federal levels, media landscape, and digital-communications trends
- Multimedia Skills: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, experience with design and editing tools, such as Adobe InDesign, Canva, basic video-editing software, and ability to manage digital content
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a strong established network or linkages with media are a plus
- Aptitude in translating and editing documents (English to Nepali and vice versa)
- Ability to work under pressure, in diverse teams, and with flexible schedules
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and implement AF’s media and communications strategy and action plan,
- Develop media products and press materials, including drafting and distributing press releases, editorials, and briefings to target audiences,
- Liaise and maintain close relationships with national and international media, journalists, government officials, donors, and civil society stakeholders,
- Manage and update AF’s social media platforms and online campaigns, including content creation, outreach, and promotions,
- Create compelling visual and written content, including photography, videography, post-production editing, and storytelling, for use in publications, advocacy, and reporting.
- Design and produce print and digital materials aligned with AF’s branding, using tools such as Adobe InDesign and Canva,
- Travel to field locations to document project activities and collect relevant content
- Support the archiving of documentation materials and the preparation of communication reports,
