The Centre for Mental Health and Counselling–Nepal (CMC-Nepal) is a national-level non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to promoting mental health and psychosocial well-being. CMC-Nepal works to ensure access to quality Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services, social inclusion, and the protection of the rights of individuals with mental health conditions and psychosocial disabilities. We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity to join our team in various positions in the Karnali Mental Health Program-Phase III (KMHP III).

The KMHP III will be implemented in 12 rural/municipalities of Dailekh, Rukum West, and Jumla district in partnership with CBM Global.  The overall objective of the program is “Persons with or at risk of mental health conditions and psychosocial disabilities enjoy independent, dignified lives, and are fully included in their communities on an equal basis with others.” The program focuses on strengthening health systems, promoting school mental health, expanding community-based psychosocial support, advancing advocacy initiatives, and promoting disability inclusion.

CMC-Nepal invites applications from qualified, competent, and committed Nepali citizens for the following positions:

1. Project Coordinator - 1 Position

Duty Station: Karnali Province Office, Surkhet (with frequent field visits)

Position Summary: The Project Coordinator will lead the overall planning, implementation, coordination, and reporting of KMHP. The position is responsible for ensuring effective collaboration with local governments, key stakeholders, and CBM Global to achieve quality and timely project outcomes.

The role also includes staff mobilization, stakeholder coordination, and systematic documentation and reporting of project interventions. The Project Coordinator will work closely with local government authorities, Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), NFDN, CBM Global, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient implementation of the project. The person will be responsible to the Program Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead project planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting in line with project objectives and timelines 
  • Ensure effective coordination and collaboration with local governments, partner organizations, OPDs, CBM Global and other stakeholders 
  • Oversee timely implementation of activities and efficient utilization of resources 
  • Provide technical and managerial support to the project team, including problem-solving and guidance 
  • Mobilize and manage project staff to ensure a cohesive, motivated, and high-performing team 
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement, advocacy initiatives, and representation in relevant forums and clusters 
  • Contribute to advocacy efforts and integration of mental health into local systems 
  • Build team capacity and provide support during humanitarian or emergency contexts

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Master's degree in psychology, Counselling Psychology, Public Health, Social Work, Sociology, Development Studies, or related field 
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in project management, preferably in MHPSS and disability inclusion projects 
  • Strong coordination, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills 
  • Experience working with government systems, OPDs, and multi-sector stakeholders 
  • Excellent reporting and communication skills (English and Nepali) 
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications 

2. Sr. School Mental Health Officer -1 Position

Duty Station: Karnali Province Office, Surkhet (with frequent field visits)

Position Summary: The Sr. School Mental Health Officer will lead the implementation, monitoring, and quality assurance of school mental health interventions under the project. The position is responsible for strengthening school-based MHPSS services through capacity building of teachers, regular supervision and mentoring of school personnel, and the establishment and strengthening of school counseling systems. 

The person will ensure coordination with local governments, education stakeholders, and communities to promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for children and adolescents. Sr. School Mental Health Officer will also oversee documentation, reporting, and technical support to ensure the sustainability and integration of school mental health services within the local education system.

The person will be responsible to the Project Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement school-based mental health and psychosocial programs 
  • Conduct training, supervision, and coaching for teachers on psychosocial support and counseling 
  • Support establishment and strengthening of school counseling units 
  • Facilitate activities such as adolescent health awareness, life skills education, and parental psychoeducation 
  • Coordinate with schools, local governments, and education stakeholders 
  • Ensure documentation, reporting, and quality assurance of school mental health activities 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • PGD in School Counseling, master's degree in psychology, Social Sciences, or related field 
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in school mental health or MHPSS programs 
  • Experience in training facilitation, supervision, and mentoring 
  • Strong communication, coordination, and reporting skills 
  • Proven ability to work with children, teachers, and communities 

3. Advocacy Officer-1 Position

Duty Station: Karnali Province Office, Surkhet (with frequent field visits)

Position Summary:The Advocacy Officer will lead the implementation, and coordination of advocacy and policy engagement initiatives to promote mental health and psychosocial disability inclusion at provincial and local levels. The position is responsible for conducting policy analysis, identifying gaps in existing laws and systems, and developing evidence-based advocacy strategies and campaigns. 

The person will develop a partnership framework with local Organizations of Persons with Disabilities and support their organizational capacity building. The position will represent the organization in relevant forums, strengthen partnerships, document advocacy outcomes and learning, and ensure that mental health and psychosocial disability issues are effectively integrated into local governance systems and development agendas.

The role involves close coordination with government stakeholders, Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), civil society organizations, and media to influence policy and programmatic changes. The Advocacy Officer will support awareness and de-stigmatization efforts, facilitate meaningful participation of rights holders, and contribute to the development of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials. The person is responsible to the Project Coordinator. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead advocacy and policy engagement initiatives on mental health and psychosocial disability at provincial and local levels, including policy review and strategy development 
  • Design and implement advocacy campaigns, awareness programs, and de-stigmatization activities using media and community mobilization 
  • Facilitate empowerment and meaningful participation of persons with mental health conditions, OPDs, and self-help groups in advocacy processes 
  • Maintain strong coordination and partnerships with government authorities, health offices, NGOs, CBOs, and other key stakeholders 
  • Represent the organization in relevant provincial and local forums, networks, and coordination platforms 
  • Supervise, mentor, and support self-advocates and field teams, ensuring effective field activities, reporting, and documentation

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (master's preferred) in Social Science, Political Science, Community Development, or a related field 
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in advocacy, policy engagement, communications, or project implementation, preferably in the NGO/INGO or development sector, with a focus on social issues, mental health, or disability rights 
  • Demonstrated experience working and coordinating with government bodies, local authorities, and community stakeholders, including OPDs and SHGs 
  • Strong skills in coordination, facilitation, communication, and stakeholder engagement 
  • Excellent documentation, reporting, and analytical writing skills 
  • Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary and multi-stakeholder environments to support program implementation and advocacy initiatives

4.Psychosocial Officer-1 Position


Duty Station: Jumla District

Position Summary: The primary objective of the position is to provide mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) and counseling. It aims to improve the mental health and psychosocial well-being of these individuals, including persons with disabilities and those with, or at risk of, mental health conditions and psychosocial disabilities in the project areas. The individual will be responsible for conducting one-to-one and group counselling, family sensitization, community awareness activities, coordination, and reporting on MHPSS responses for CMC-Nepal, as designated. The person is responsible to the Mental Health Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group psychosocial counseling, including follow-up support and referrals at the community level 
  • Conduct community awareness sessions, orientations, and family sensitization on mental health, psychosocial well-being, disability inclusion, disaster response, and self-care 
  • Support formation and mobilization of peer groups and self-help groups to promote co-recovery and community-based psychosocial support 
  • Link persons with mental health conditions, psychosocial disabilities, and vulnerable populations with relevant social protection schemes and disability benefits 
  • Support CPSWs and community workers in planning, implementation, and reporting of community-based MHPSS activities in coordination with program teams 
  • Ensure effective coordination with stakeholders for referral services and continuity of care 
  • Maintain proper documentation, reporting, and data management of all MHPSS interventions and field activities

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology or social work or health education or public health, with a six-month psychosocial counselling training (NHTC or recognized organization). 
  • Minimum three years of experience as a psychosocial counsellor, preferably in community-based MHPSS projects. 
  • Strong understanding of psychosocial interventions, leadership, coordination, and communication skills. 
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email proficiency, and report writing in English and Nepali. 
  • Motivated to work in multicultural and challenging environments, able to work multi-sectoral, build effective relationships, and undertake field visits.
