1. Introduction
Multi-dimensional Action for Development (MADE Nepal) is a non-profit, community-based organization committed to improving the livelihoods and resilience of marginalized communities in Nepal. Established with a vision of inclusive and sustainable development, MADE Nepal works across diverse thematic areas including livelihood promotion, climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction (DRR), and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). By integrating innovation, local knowledge, and evidence-based practices, MADE Nepal strives to create lasting impacts that enhance economic opportunities, strengthen resilience to climate and disaster risks, and promote equitable access to essential services.
2. Position Summary
The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive officer of MADE Nepal, reporting to the Executive Board. The ED will provide strategic leadership, oversee program and operations, ensure organizational sustainability, and represent MADE Nepal nationally and internationally. This role requires a visionary leader with proven experience in livelihoods, climate change adaptation, DRR, and WASH.
3 .Key Responsibilities
a. Leadership & Governance
- Act as the primary link between the Executive Board and management team.
- Provide visionary leadership to strengthen MADE Nepal’s role as a catalyst for community-led development.
- Lead and facilitate the Management Committee, ensuring strategic alignment with Board directives.
- Promote MADE Nepal’s mission, vision, and values across all operations and partnerships.
- Mentor, motivate, and inspire the team, fostering inclusive and transformative leadership practices.
b. Strategic Management
- Oversee development, implementation, and periodic review of MADE Nepal’s strategic plan.
- Lead adaptive management to respond effectively to emerging challenges and opportunities.
- Strengthen organizational systems, governance, and accountability for long-term sustainability.
c. Program and Operations Oversight
- Provide strategic direction and supervision to all programs, ensuring high-quality, timely, and impactful delivery.
- Collaborate closely with Program Director, Managers, Coordinators, and Technical Leads.
- Promote evidence-based programming, strong MEL systems, and learning-driven decision-making.
d. External Representation
- Represent MADE Nepal in national and international forums, networks, and donor platforms.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, private sector actors, and civil society.
- Influence policies and practices to support resilient and sustainable community development.
e. Fundraising & Resource Mobilization
- Lead resource mobilization strategies to diversify funding sources and ensure financial sustainability.
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities in livelihoods, climate resilience, DRR, and WASH sectors.
- Supervise proposal development and donor reporting processes, ensuring compliance and accountability.
- Nurture long-term relationships with donors, development partners, and private sector allies.
f. Human Resource Management & Organizational Culture
- Provide strategic leadership for staff recruitment, development, and retention.
- Promote an inclusive, safe, and respectful workplace culture grounded in equity, accountability, and learning.
- Support staff capacity building with a focus on leadership, technical expertise, and cross-thematic knowledge.
- Ensure adherence to safeguarding and ethical standards across all levels.
g. Knowledge, Innovation & Communication
- Supervise knowledge management, learning, and communication functions.
- Promote innovation in program design and implementation.
- Ensure effective dissemination of lessons learned and success stories to influence wider development practices.
h. Ethics, Accountability & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, national laws, and donor requirements.
- Promote ethical standards, transparency, and accountability in all organizational processes.
- Safeguard organizational resources and ensure responsible financial and programmatic management.
- Uphold MADE Nepal’s commitment to community ownership, gender equality, and social justice.
4. Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Development Studies, Sociology, Management, Economics, Rural Development, Environmental Science, or related fields.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in program management, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
- Strong track record of work in livelihoods, climate change adaptation, DRR, WASH, or related sectors.
- Demonstrated experience in organizational leadership, resource mobilization, and external representation.
