Terms of Reference
To capture and supply high resolution photographs and videos
of USAID Agricultural Inputs activities
Background
USAID Agricultural Inputs is a five-year activity funded by USAID under the Feed the Future initiative which aims to increase the availability, accessibility, and use of agricultural inputs and technology to improve Nepal’s agricultural productivity. USAID Agricultural Inputs is implemented by Winrock International in collaboration with five consortium partner organizations.
USAID Agricultural Inputs will enable lead firms, agrovets, input suppliers, local machinery service providers, and Government of Nepal change agents and farmers to increase productivity, input supply chain efficiency, market system competitiveness, and strengthen the enabling environment in a way that equitably addresses the needs of women, youth, and members of marginalized groups. USAID Agricultural Inputs will benefit 200,000 farmers in the USAID FTF zone of influence. USAID Agricultural Inputs will contribute to the following objectives:
Objective 1: Demand and supply responsive and financially viable seed system improved.
Objective 2: Soil fertility management and fertilizer distribution system improved.
Objective 3: Climate adaptive and sustainable irrigation management system improved.
Objective 4: Agricultural mechanization enhanced.
Objective
The overall objective of the assignment is to hire a short-term consultant to capture and supply high resolution photographs and short video clips (for social media use in platforms like Facebook and Twitter) of USAID Agricultural Inputs activities, it’s impact and achievements in 16 USAID Agricultural Inputs working districts covering activity promoted commodities and activities – rice, maize, lentil, vegetables, seed, mechanization, fertilizer, irrigation and other cross cutting areas. The selected consultant will also need to orient/train the USAID Agricultural Inputs team in capturing quality photographs and short videos.
This assignment will need close coordination with USAID Agricultural Inputs’ Kathmandu and field team to understand the field context, photography/video requirements, identification of locations and participants, and for other logistical support.
Activities/tasks
- The consultant will be required to travel to USAID Agricultural Inputs activity sites and capture high resolution photographs and short videos (for social media use in platforms like Facebook and Twitter) of USAID Agricultural Inputs activities. All logistics will be arranged by and expenses covered by USAID Agricultural Inputs.
- All photographs must be in color with high resolution of at least 2,048 pixels and 1,536-pixel, 300 DPI. The preferred format for photographs is JPEG.
- All photographs and videos must be submitted in properly categories folders along with specific photo captions with details such as date, location, identity of all characters in the photos, beneficiary type, action in the picture, activity detail, zest of the story and any other relevant information that can be used for stories and write-ups for USAID social media platforms. All photos and videos must be accompanied with signed media release forms.
- Orient/train USAID Agricultural Inputs team in capturing quality photographs and short videos.
Level of Effort and Duration of Assignment
The proposed level of effort for this assignment is 22 working days to be carried out between the timeframe from March 2024 to March 2025. The timeline, frequency, and duration of the travel, districts covered, and requirements will be mutually decided with the selected consultant.
Deliverables
- At least 100 high resolution photographs with captions per day, all with full copyright to USAID Agricultural Inputs.
- 1-3 videos per visit, all with full copyright to USAID Agricultural Inputs including editing and adding sub-titles as needed.
- Photographs and videos should be either shared in a link and in electronic form in an external hard drive or a CD.
- USAID Agricultural Inputs team oriented/trained in capturing quality photographs and short videos.
- After every field visit or event, assignment completion report and any other documents required for travel request and clearance.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- The candidate must be a professional photographer with at least five years of photography and videography experience.
- Should have his/her own professional DSLR camera and equipment.
- Experience of using photo and basic video editing tools.
- Should be a creative person and bring in creative and innovative ideas for the photos and videos.

- Detailed individual portfolio showcasing range of work, with links to specific sites/media outlets/publications.
- Proposed gross daily rate. The selected consultant shall submit a copy of the contract/ agreement, or other proof of two latest assignments verifying the proposed daily rate upon selection.
- PAN registration certificate (copy of VAT certificate is must if the total consultancy value exceeds or equal to NRs. 500,000). Note - Tax will be deducted at source as per the Government of Nepal’s tax rule and regulation.
- For official travel outside of Kathmandu Valley, the consultant's travel cost will be reimbursed as per USAID Agricultural Inputs norms.
