The evaluation and selection of Bids will be conducted in adherence with the established International Standards and a criteria set by ISET-Nepal. The decision of the evaluation committee shall be final and binding. ISET-Nepal reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids, in whole or in part, without assigning any reason whatsoever. No claims or queries regarding the selection process or outcomes will be entertained.

Background

Established in 2001, ISET-Nepal specializes in interdisciplinary policy research and piloting initiatives at the local level. It conducts interdisciplinary studies, pilots initiatives, implements programs, and facilitates policy dialogues that address social and environmental challenges. ISET generates empirical evidence to inform policies across five key themes: Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, the Changing Rural-Urban Continuum, Climate, Water, Ecosystem, Food and Livelihood Interdependence, Energy System and Management, and Public-Sector Governance. By enhancing knowledge and capacities, ISET-Nepal strives to foster a society capable of effectively managing these challenges.

Since 2022, ISET-Nepal has been implementing a project on Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change, and Resilience Building with support from DanChurchAid (DCA), approved by the Social Welfare Council.

1. Activity Context

Changunarayan Municipality is promoting sustainable waste management and climate-resilient agricultural practices. In line with this, the municipality aims to strengthen farmers’ capacity in organic waste management through composting techniques. Composting not only reduces household and agricultural waste but also improves soil fertility, reduces dependency on chemical fertilizers, and supports organic farming practices.

To achieve this, the municipality seeks to engage a qualified consultancy firm to design and deliver practical composting training, provide technical expertise, and support farmers with necessary materials, including composting bins.

2. Objectives of the Assignment

The main objective of this consultancy is to:

  • Build farmers' capacity in effective composting techniques.
  • Promote sustainable and decentralized organic waste management practices.
  • Support the transition toward organic and climate-resilient agriculture.

Specific Objectives

Train farmers on the preparation and use of EM solutions and composting methods.

  • Conduct hands-on practical demonstrations.
  • Distribute composting bins and training materials to farmers.
  • Enhance knowledge on waste segregation and resource recovery.

3. Scope of Work

The consultancy firm will be responsible for the following:

3.1 Training Design and Delivery

  • Develop a comprehensive training curriculum and manual in English/Nepali.
  • Conduct training sessions for farmers (target: minimum 48 participants from Ward 2 and Ward 6 or as assigned).
  • Ensure a balance between theoretical knowledge and practical demonstration.

The consultancy firm is expected to deliver:

  • Training curriculum and manuals (hard and soft copies)
  • Conducted training sessions with attendance records
  • Practical demonstration sessions completed
  • Distribution of composting bins to targeted farmers

Training completion report including:

  • Number of participants 
  • Training outcomes and feedback
  • Photo documentation

5. Expected Outputs

  • At least 60 farmers have been trained on composting techniques
  • Farmers equipped with the knowledge and skills to produce compost independently
  • Composting bins (50) distributed and utilized at the household/farm level

6. Expected Outcomes

  • Increased adoption of composting practices at household and community levels
  • Improved soil fertility and agricultural productivity
  • Reduction in organic waste and chemical fertilizer usage
  • Enhanced awareness on waste segregation and resource management
  • Promotion of organic farming practices in the municipality

7. Duration of the Assignment

The total duration of the assignment will be [5-15] days, including preparation, training delivery, and reporting.

8. Required Qualifications of the Firm

  • Proven experience in composting, organic farming, or waste management
  • Experience in conducting community-level training for farmers
  • Technical expertise in EM technology and composting methods
  • Strong facilitation and reporting skills

9. Team Composition

The consultancy firm should provide:

  • Lead Trainer/Composting Expert
  • Technical Assistant(s)

10. Logistics and Support

  • The ISET Nepal will coordinate with wards and participants, and all food (lunch package) and logistics will be managed by ISET Nepal.
  • The consultancy firm will arrange training materials, demonstration tools, and technical inputs.
  • Composting bins distribution will be coordinated jointly.

11. Reporting and Coordination

  • The consultancy firm will report to ISET Nepal for implementing activities related to composting in Changunarayan Municipality, Bhaktapur.
  • Regular progress updates will be required throughout the assignment.

12. Evaluation Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on:

  • Technical approach and methodology
  • Financial proposal

Application Process: Interested firms are required to submit the following documents with the bid application: company/firm registration certificate, VAT registration, Citizenship and tax clearance, CVs of the Trainer, and their expected budget.
