OHW works with local communities and local health service providers to develop a culturally appropriate Network of Safety around mothers and infants, by raising awareness, teaching good practices, and distributing essential equipment to ensure that mothers and infants survive delivery and the first months of life.

Job Description

Position: Senior Research and Learning OfficerReports to: Director of Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and LearningSupervision: No
Duty Station: One Heart Worldwide (OHW) Kathmandu Office with frequent field visits
Job Responsibilities and main duties: Under the direct supervision of DMERL Senior Research and Learning Officer based in Kathmandu office is responsible for the oversight of the research and learning-related work of the OHW. This position will provide strategic support to the management via contextual evidence to promote evidence-guided program planning and implementation. Senior Monitoring and Learning Officer's main responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Work with DMERL to conceptualize and design qualitative and quantitative studies as per the need of the organization
  • Carry out quantitative and qualitative data analysis and produce technical/policy briefs of existing monitoring, survey, and qualitative studies data 
  • Organize, design, and carry out qualitative fieldwork, often with marginalized or vulnerable people, in different locations and contexts across Nepal
  • Produce high quality and varied research outputs for a range of audiences including analysis, report writing, and presentations where necessary
  • Work closely with MERL team to monitor and report on innovative projects
  • Do field visits and interact with the district-based program staff to document key issues, lessons learned, and best practices
  • Coordinate closely with the concerned government agencies (NHRC, MoHP, DoHS, Provincial health, and research agencies, and district level health agencies) to conduct researches 
  • Review, edit, and obtain appropriate approvals for researches and pilot projects
  • Review and provide feedback to the reports/documents (e.g. baseline, end line reports ) produced by other agencies 
  • Promote the use of data to inform decision making and link evidence-based approaches to the achievement of results
  • Review and present published articles, grey literature, government policies, and programs on MNH
  • Perform other program/MEL related duties assigned by supervisor and needed for the program
Required qualification:

Job Specifications:

Academic qualification and work experience (minimum requirements): 

  • Master’s degree in public health or related field 
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in research and learning 

Preferred: at least one peer-reviewed article in the indexed journal as the main author 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to summarize information in a clear and concise manner
  • Excellent knowledge and skill on research design and implementation 
  • Paper write up and publication 
  • Ability to work independently to efficiently meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal communication (written and oral) skill 
  • Excellent computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, GIS, and quantitative and qualitative data analysis software
