PHASE Nepal is a non-governmental, organization established in 2006 with a vision to build a self-empowered and self-sustained society where all kinds of discrimination are absent (please visit www.phasenepal.org for more information).  PHASE Nepal’s health, education, livelihoods, research and strengthening the concept of independent living projects are currently running across various rural communities in Nepal.

We also implement various research projects in partnership with different universities from the UK and organizations from other Asian and African countries. Around 57 colleagues work with PHASE Nepal as full time staff and hundreds of volunteers help to accomplish our research and implementation activities. PHASE Nepal is currently looking for suitable candidates for the following positions for our future research projects.

Position: Qualitative and Quantitative Research Associates

Number of Positions: Few (we will keep the prospective candidates in a roaster and will contact as required)

Duty Station: Either PHASE Nepal central office Bhaktapur or field depending upon the requirement.

Duration: As per project requirements

Remuneration: Gross monthly salary of NRs 55000 (pro rata if for shorter durations) while working in Kathmandu and additional transportation, lodging and food allowances will be provided during the field work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative data collection as per approved research tools and guidelines.
  • Administer structured questionnaires, surveys, interviews, and other data collection tools.
  • Conduct Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and in-depth interviews (IDIs) where required.
  • Ensure accurate, complete, and reliable collection of research data.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards throughout the data collection process.
  • Obtain informed consent from research participants before data collection.
  • Review collected data for completeness and consistency before submission.
  • Record and maintain qualitative information accurately.
  • Use digital data collection platforms such as KoboToolbox or other relevant applications, where required.
  • Coordinate with the research/project team during field-level data collection.
  • Submit collected data and field reports within the specified timeline.
  • Perform other research-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Public Health (MPH) or Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) from a recognized university/institution or equivalent qualification and experiences.
  • Experienced in qualitative and quantitative data collection.
  • Knowledge of research methodology, data collection techniques, and ethical practices.
  • Experience in using Kobo Toolbox or other digital data collection tools is preferred.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to travel to the field on short notice.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in public health, community-based research, health surveys, or development-sector research.
  • Experience conducting FGDs, KIIs, IDIs, household surveys, and other field-level research activities.
  • Basic understanding of data quality assurance and data management.
  • Fluency in English and Nepali; knowledge of local languages will be an advantage.

Insurance & Benefits:

PHASE Nepal will provide accidental insurance of NRs. 20,00,000/- for employee and medical insurance for the employee and up to 2 dependents if employed longer term. While working in the office free lunch and tea are provided.
