Rural Development and Empowerment Center (RUDEC), Nepal, is a non-profit, non-political, and non-governmental organization established in 1998 A.D. (2054 B.S.) and registered at the District Administration Office (DAO) in Nuwakot. It is affiliated with the Social Welfare Council, NGO Federation Nepal, and NGO Coordination Committee. RUDEC is the first pioneering NGO registered in the Nuwakot district, with a well-established logistic management system based in Bidur Municipality, Nuwakot. RUDEC was founded to utilize local resources wisely while enhancing the capacity of local people, ensuring livelihood improvement opportunities for poor, deprived, and destitute community members, especially women, children, marginalized, and vulnerable populations in Nuwakot and surrounding districts. Since its inception, RUDEC has been implementing integrated development and humanitarian activities across various sectors, including Education, Health, Child Rights, Food Security, Rural Infrastructure Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management, Renewable Energy, Environment, Agriculture, Natural Resources Management, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), Human Rights, Peace, and Democracy. These efforts aim to improve the socio-economic and health conditions of the most deprived and disadvantaged people.

Public Health Officer

Position: Public Health Officer (Junior)

Gross salary: Rs. 35,580 per month

With technical and financial support of Good Neighbors International Nepal, RUDEC Nepal is implementing “Integrated Community Development Project (ICDP)” in Nuwakot District since 2022. Under ICDP project, RUDEC Nepal is hiring the Public Health Officer to conduct activities of Health and WASH theme.

Scope of Jobs:

Public Health Officer (PHO) is responsible for implementing health and WASH related activities of Integrated Community Development in Nuwakot, funded by Good Neighbors International Nepal. The PHO will be based in project location, Nuwakot District with frequent to the project working area. The PHO Will work under the direct supervision of the focal person of the RUDEC Nepal.

Major duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will be mainly focused on the following major duties and responsibilities.

Planning and Implementation:

  • Develop strategic plan on project operation in collaboration with donor organization, and local stakeholders.
  • Design health and WASH related plan of action (PoA) and execute accordingly in the target areas.
  • Develop contents for educational activities and awareness campaign.
  • Revitalize community groups like health mother group (HMG), Health Facility Operation Management Committee (HFOMC), W/ S-WASH-CC.
  • Develop required standards of project interventions for the support to health facilities, schools, and community ensuring all the norms of inclusiveness to ensure health rights.

Training and Development:

  • Conduct orientation, training, interaction and discussion for sensitizing communities on Public Health Issues.
  • Facilitate to mobilize FCHVs and HMGs.
  • Facilitate workshop and training for enhancing capacity of FCHVs, HMGs, W/S-WASH-CCs, HFOMCs, PMCs, child club members, parents and community.

MEAL

  • Carry-out periodical assessment of project in order to assess the gap in operational practices of project interventions.
  • Collect and compile training need assessment for FCHVs, HMG, HFOMC, ORC Management committees, Health Workers and W/S-WASH-CC.
  • Conduct field visits to observe, monitor and evaluate the project interventions and utilization status.
  • Submit periodic reports as per project requirement.
  • Compile experiences, lessons learnt, best practices and success stories of project.
  • Assist in feasibility study of infra activities.
  • Review physical and financial progress of project interventions.

Collaboration and Coordination

  • Extend coordination with concerned local government, schools, health facilities, community networks and other likeminded organizations, civil society and seek collaboration.
  • Participate in the programs/ meeting and discussions held at district, R/M, community level and share the learnings/ experiences.

Qualification and required skills:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s in public health and related subject with minimum 1-year experience and Intermediate degree in health-related subject with at least 3 years of experience.

Experience:

  • At least one-year experience in adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH), Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM), maternal neonatal and child health (MNCH) and other public health projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of community health.
  • Hands on experience in social mobilization.
  • Should have team mobilization, leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate in English, Nepali, and local languages.
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS word, excel, PowerPoint, email and internet.
  • Should have two wheelers driving license.
