Transcultural Psychosocial Organization Nepal (TPO Nepal) is one of Nepal’s leading organizations in the psychosocial and mental health field. It was established in 2005 with the aim of promoting psychosocial well-being and mental health of people in conflict affected and other vulnerable communities through the development of sustainable, culturally-appropriate, and community-based psychosocial support systems.

Currently, the organization is implementing a 3-year research project funded by the Wellcome Trust UK which aims to develop and pilot-test a community based intervention to promote help-seeking for depression care. TPO Nepal is looking for competent, committed, and result-oriented candidates for the following positions: 

Position: Psychosocial Counselor

Location: Kanepokhari Gaupalika and Pathari-Sanischare of Morang

Number of openings: 2 (Kanepokhari-1 and Pathari-1)

Duration: 6 months

Starting date: May 2024

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Psychosocial Counselor will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:

  • Undertake vulnerability assessments and provide appropriate psychosocial counselling support to individuals seeking help.
  • Conduct home visits and collaborate with family members as needed.
  • Collaborate with other service providers to facilitate referrals for additional care.
  • Maintain case documentation.
  • Participate in project coordination meetings and weekly supervision and support meetings.
  • Advocate for the promotion of psychosocial support activities with local governments and other stakeholders.
  • Follow the inputs and additional responsibilities provided by the project lead when it comes to the strategic benefits of the project.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • The candidate should have a bachelor's in any discipline along with six-month psychosocial counseling training/Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Counseling Psychology. A master’s degree in Psychology would be preferable.
  • At least one year of working experience as a psychosocial counselor.
  • Able to work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Preference will be given to the local candidates so residents Morang.
  • Must be computer literate. Able to prepare reports on the computer and maintain a database of case management.
