Introduction:

Defence Infrastructure Organization (Nepal) (DIO(N)) British Gurkhas provide technical/ engineering support to British Gurkhas Nepal, Kathmandu BGN(K), British Gurkhas Nepal, Pokhara BGN(P) & British Gurkhas Nepal, Dharan BGN(D).  The department's primary output is the delivery of new infrastructure and the management and maintenance of existing infrastructure, including electrical distribution systems, mechanical plant, water treatment facilities, boilers, heating plant and other critical life support infrastructure in support of HQ BGN in Nepal.

This position is advertised at 40 hours per week.

Job description:

• Plan and execute efficiently, masonry, carpentry and building painting work from sketches, working drawings to support response, planned preventive maintenance and minor new works to BGN Estate consisting of 60 plus technical and residential buildings.
• Perform measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed.
• Safely and efficiently operate various fixed and portable tools and equipment related to the trades. Carryout regular maintenance cleaning of these machines.
• Cut or shape and lay bricks, concrete blocks, stones and other masonry materials to build or repair structures ensuring proper alignment, level, and plumb of masonry work.
• Estimate minor RCC and mortar mixtures work, plastering works. Mix and apply mortar, grout, and other bonding agents to secure materials.
• Measure, prepare (cut, shape and smooth) and assemble wood and other materials using hand and power tools to install, construct or repair different types of wooden structures such as frameworks, doors, windows, flooring, cabinets and other wooden structures.
• Lay out floorings, roofings or drywells ensuring they are levelled and compatible.
• Carryout repairs of brick, block and stone walls and floors.
• Install repair false ceiling and gypsum boards.
• Any other tasks commensurate with grade and competence, as directed by line management.

What you will be doing:

Responsibilities:

• Assemble furniture, cabinets, shelves and other items and install them where designated.
• Install and maintain fire doors, as required.
• Carryout installation and repairs for rainwater gutting systems.
• Carry out minor painting works to surfaces by repairing holes, scraping old paint, mix and match then applying paints to achieve desired decorative and faux finishes as required.
• Repair/replace PVC/UPVC doors, windows and ventilations, and its fittings and fixtures.
• Carryout minor survey relevant to the profession. Complete logbook and inspection sheet, as required.
• Be able to work at height including building scaffolding and other construction structures.
• Work in workshops, confined spaces, work at height, accommodation quarters, commercial buildings, in hot and humid kitchens.
• Any other tasks commensurate with grade and competence, as directed by line management.

You must have:

• Good written/ spoken English and Nepali language skills.
• Served a minimum of 3 years as a multi-skilled worker, semi-skilled labour, or have served a recognised apprenticeship or be able to demonstrate experience up to the equivalent standard.
• Hold minimum CTEVT’s level II qualification/s in relevant trade such as masonry, wielding and carpentry works from a reputed institution in Nepal.
• Have a good working knowledge of the methods, tools and materials of the relevant trades mentioned and be able to maintain them as specified in the DIO (Nepal) Equipment Care Directive.
• Proven experience, qualifications, and training is preferable for this role to deliver the job responsibility effectively and efficiently. Any other multi-skilled qualifications will be an added advantage.
• You will be assessed on your competency through an assessment including written, practical and interview test. Minimum SEE education with extensive work experience, skills and technical qualifications is preferred.

• Salary 91,289.00 NPR per month (Permanent).
