Simulation Society of Nepal (SSN) was established in 2019 with a commitment to implement simulation-based programs to improve the skills and competency of the healthcare professionals and ultimately improve quality of care in Nepal. SSN has been implementing simulation-based programs in collaboration with partners like UNICEF, GIZ, with technical support from Laerdal Global Health and under the guidance of Ministry of Health and Population, Government of Nepal (GoN). By providing a platform for networking, collaboration, and learning among simulation professionals in Nepal, SSN aims to create a positive impact on healthcare.
Under the guidance of Family Welfare Division, Department of Health Services (DoHS), UNICEF Nepal in collaboration with Simulation Society of Nepal and technical support from Laerdal Global Health, is implementing a program "Strengthening competencies and quality improvement of maternal and newborn care" in selected health facilities of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces. The program will be implemented collaborating with government counterparts, technical experts, professional societies, health intuitions, and relevant stakeholders working in Maternal and Newborn Health.
Hence, Simulation Society of Nepal is seeking applications for the following positions:
Position: Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) Officer
No of candidates required: 1
Duty station: Kathmandu
Duration: 1 year with possibility of extension
Type: Full time
Travel: Frequent field visits as required
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Develop and update an organization-level Monitoring and Evaluation Framework, spelling out the clear M&E plan.
- Develop and update M&E tools (monitoring checklist, accountability checklist, data validation form, supervisory checklist, among others) in close participation of the program team.
- Ensure that verifiable data is routinely collected, entered, validated, quality ensured, documented and analyzed as per M&E plan to assure achievement and progress towards program targets and objectives.
- Conduct review meeting at the Provincial and organization level in close collaboration with the program team.
- Implementation of research activities including assessments and evaluation with the support from the program team
- Development of research concepts, data collection instruments, and field protocols in line with study objectives, literature review, and coordination with field teams.
- Take a lead to identify the major areas of research related to components of the program, finalize methodology of research and conduct relevant operational research.
- Lead the field team of enumerators in collaboration with provincial project coordinators and monitor and supervise data collection activities and ensure quality data collection in the assigned study area/adhere study protocol including ethical aspects of the study and maintain daily reporting to core team members.
- Conduct data entry, cleaning, quantitative analysis, qualitative analysis using relevant software (SPSS, STATA, NVivo, or Excel) etc.
- Prepare reports, briefs, and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations.
- Support dissemination of research findings through workshops, policy briefs, or publications.
- Coordinate with external consultants, field researchers, enumerators, and stakeholders to ensure smooth study implementation.
- Maintain proper research documentation, data storage, and confidentiality in line with ethical guidelines.
- Publication of certain articles from the findings of the study.
- Perform any other related tasks assigned by the supervisor to support the organization’s research and learning objectives.
Professional and Educational requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in public health (BPH), preferred master's in public health (MPH).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of working experience with experience in conducting research projects, preferably within a consultancy or research-focused organization and conducted implementation/ operational research.
- Minimum three publications as primary author.
