Position Title: Knowledge Management and Communication Officer
Full/Part-Time: Full Time Position
Reports to: Project Manager and works closely with project teams
Location: Manbhawan, Lalitpur, Nepal
Duration of Contract: November 2025 to November 2026 with the possibility of extension
Background
Centre for Rural Technology, Nepal (CRT/N) is a professional non-governmental organization engaged in developing and promoting appropriate rural technologies effective in meeting the basic needs and improving the livelihood of rural people. Established in August 1989 under the Company Act, CRT/N was re-registered with the Government of Nepal (GoN) under the Social Organization Registration Act 1977 (2034 B.S.) since October 1998.
CRT/N’s vision is to become a professional and innovative organization and knowledge centre in renewable energy and appropriate technology, delivering quality services to local communities to improve their livelihood. Its mission includes developing, promoting, and disseminating environmentally sound rural and appropriate technologies; strengthening the capability of rural communities through mobilization of local resources; and conducting adaptive and action-oriented research on indigenous and improved rural technologies. The organization also trains and transfers technical information and know-how on production, installation, and management of rural and appropriate technologies, assists in developing technical and institutional capacities for sustainable development, and provides technical support and consulting services in the fields of rural energy, environment conservation, and climate change.
Within this institutional framework, CRT/N emphasizes upgrading traditional technologies, improving energy efficiency, and promoting diversified and versatile applications to respond to the needs of rural communities. Building on this mandate, CRT/N has been actively developing and implementing projects on climate change mitigation and adaptation with a focus on renewable energy and related technologies. To support this effort, the Knowledge Management and Communication Officer will assist CRT/N with strategic guidance and support for knowledge management and communication activities.
The scope of the work for the Knowledge Management and Communication Officer:
The Knowledge Management and Communication Officer is responsible for the management, utilization, and communication of CRT/N that are translated in the form of success stories, project reports, policy briefs etc. S/he will be responsible for the deployment and strengthening of the robust communication system within the organization. Officer will be responsible for developing communication work plan for the organization and its projects on a yearly basis with clear deliverables and its implementation in a timely manner. Officer will ensure strategic visibility of all project activities and outputs; effectively communicate to project stakeholders and reach Nepali people; and report on activities that are impactful, representative, and highly visible.
Specifically, the Knowledge Management and Communication Officer will:
- Oversee and coordinate activities across different workstreams to ensure efficient delivery of knowledge management and communication outputs. This includes designing and publishing high-quality knowledge and communication materials tailored for multiple or targeted audiences, as needed.
- Support the generation of case studies and policy evidence within CRT/N’s scope by producing, reviewing, and disseminating appropriate communication and knowledge products, including case stories, photos, interviews, newsletters, manuals, press releases, notices, announcements, fact sheets, policy briefs, video documentaries, project opportunity assessments, pre-assessment reports, website and social media content, quarterly and annual reports, presentations, brochures, banners, and other knowledge management and outreach materials.
- Lead and support the team to conduct various events like stakeholders and partner coordination meetings, exchange visits.
- Lead on implementing knowledge management cycle (such as creation, capture, refine, store, manage and disseminate) of the project.
- Review and update communication strategies on a regular basis and ensure the communication and knowledge management system is firmly in place and executed.
- Generate new ideas for producing innovative theme/ issue specific communications materials for reaching to all kinds of stakeholders (e.g development partners, universities, governments, private sector, youth, parents etc.)
- Ensure Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials' quality control by reviewing, proofreading, and editing programme documents across workstreams, and guide/verify work done by English-Nepali/Nepali-English translators (STTA).
- Review and update CRT/N’s internal and external Knowledge Management and Communication strategy to address emerging needs and requirements.
- Maintain professional working relationships with partners and contribute to a harmonious working environment.
- Adhere to any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and experiences required
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, media including journalism, social sciences, or any other related field.
- At least a year of demonstrated knowledge and experience in knowledge management and strategic communication in development sector. Experience within the climate action sector would be an added advantage.
- Experience of working with donors / on donor funded projects in the fields of knowledge management related to climate change, energy and/or GESI and desired understanding of Knowledge Management and communication requirements of the donors.
- Experience in developing communication outputs targeting policy makers, private sector and finance/investment stakeholders
- Ability to provide advice and be strategic and analytical in approach to knowledge management.
- Experience in managing web-based knowledge management system and handling web communications including website update, social media handling and outreach.
- Skill and experience in graphic design will be an advantage.
- Excellent writing, editing, research and verbal communication skills in English and Nepali.
- Ability to work under time pressure and meet deadlines including ad-hoc and unforeseen expectations to deliver.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both individually and as a team member.
- Willingness and ability to travel in project intervention areas.
Duration & Working Hours
- Working hours will align with CRT/N’s normal office schedule (Monday to Friday, 10 am to 5pm)
Remuneration
Remuneration and allowances be based on the prevailing provisions of CRT/N.
