Himalayan Children Society is a non- profit, non-government organization established in 1998. HCS specialize in remote Education through partnerships with the community schools of remote district i.e., Humla.  It is well known for the Model   Hostel Concept  at remote district and a perfect example of Public Private Partnerships for community development since 1998. 

Himalayan Children Society is looking for an experienced and qualified Nepali national to fill the following position 

Position: Hostel Warden

Quantity:

Duty Station:Yalbang, Humla 

Contract:1 year (Extendable for 3 years based on performances) 

Working hours: 24 hours at Hostel and with the student  

Purpose of this Job: The hostel warden's key  responsibility is to strictly uphold child protection and   safeguarding, take care of children's   Physical health and hygiene,  general well-being of the students along with promotion  of sound  Psycho- social behaviors within the residential facilities in coordination with Parents, teachers  and HCS Management.    

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for child protection and safeguarding of the students residing at hostel. 
  • Maintenance of good standard of behavior and discipline among children in accordance with the student code of conduct, policies and regulations developed by HCS management.
  • Develop, maintain, update and apply Individual Child Planning (ICP) for every child in the hostel.
  • Responsible for undertaking weekly family circle meetings with children.
  • Organize one-to-one meetings with children who need guidance and support.
  • Responsible for arrangement and allotment of rooms to the students and make sure they are maintained neat and clean at all time.
  • Make sure quality food is served, hygiene is maintained and meals are served on time in the hostel.
  • Maintain good relationship with all the hostel staff and teachers in the school.
  • Work closely with hostel teachers in running effective before and after extra tuition classes in the hostel. 
  • Responsible for equal distribution of support provided by Himalayan Children Society without any bias and treat the students equally. 
  • Arranges for first aid and medical treatment in case of any emergency in coordination with the local health post. 
  • Maintain good and regular communication with parents regarding their children’s behavior, academic performances and health issues. 
  • Develop students’ clubs and groups in the hostel and encourage student’s participation for the physical and mental development of the children. 
  • Plan and organize weekly meetings with the girls and boys clubs at hostels and provide them opportunities to share their problems and find solutions within themselves. 
  • Treat the children with utmost respect and maintain privacy.
  • Ensure each and every child has a recommendation letter from their respective ward office, CDO office or Rural municipality before enrollment at hostel.
  • Prepare Individual Child profiles (Updated photo, name, age, details of child, contact info of parents etc.). 
  • Prepare individual Child plan with the participation of the students and review 6 monthly with the students and teachers. 
  • Communicate and coordinate with higher authority to deal with the girls’ and boys’ issues and report immediately to the project manager in case of any indiscipline or misbehavior by the students.
  • Maintain records of any issues and problems and their solution at hostel related with children and keep these files safely into children’s profiles. 
  • Plan and organize awareness programs on reproductive and sexual health education, online crimes, bullies from social media etc. 
  • Plan and organize awareness programs on Child Protection on a regular basis.
  • Monitoring of children’s unusual behavior, discuss with the children and their parents. 
  • Ensure that not any adults including siblings, parents and relatives from outside are allowed to spend the night in hostel rooms with their children. 
  • Ensure the rooms are neat, clean and tidy.
  • Communicate clearly, calmly and assertively in the event of incidents. 
  • Manage the response to incidents and emergencies relating to health, safety and general well-being of students and liaise effectively with the project Manager. 
  • Plan and organize meetings and interaction sessions with the parents 6 monthly at hostel. 
  • Plan and organize meetings with the higher authority on a weekly basis and as per need. 

Required Qualification: 

  • Minimum Intermediate degree preferably in social work 
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with the children and in child protection areas
  • Should be child friendly and have patience working with the children 
  • Appropriate computer skills( including MS word, Excel, Power point ) 
  • Have sound knowledge and skills in report writing, case studies and presentation
