South Lalitpur Rural Electric Cooperative Limited (SLREC) Chapagaon-6, Lalitpur INTRODUCTION SLREC was established as a co-operative in the year of 1999. However, its origin was attributed to several years of moments for electrification lead by local leaders, teachers and social workers of southern Lalitpur prior to its establishment. Until 1995, this southern part of Lalitpur was lagging behind from the mainstream of rural electrification and development in spite of being located in such a vicinity of the capital of the country. As the region was not electrified, the locals got united and initiated to explan the necessity of electricity with people's participation. The locals also emphasized on the need of electricity expecting that it would be instrumental in promoting the economic development of communities. South Lalitpur Electrification Campaign/movement was formed and started to initiate area electrification in 1996. The committee was decided and initiated grid electrification with the community participation approaches. Consequently, SLREC was established in 1999 and since then it has been working successfully for the area electrification. Continuous effort of this imitation significant achievement/ process was made in south lalitpur in electrification till 2002 AD. Acknowledging this approach and effort the government of Nepal was formulated community based rural electrification in bi-law 2003. In this way SLREC today known as pioniour for community rural electrification and many national and international delegates have been visiting to share and observe the approach and achievement of SLREC. Now, South Lalitpur rural electric cooperative known as successful model of people's participation, resource mobilization, extending energy service promotion and as well as development of renewable energy in national and global level. SLREC is operating electricity distribution service, renewable energy promotion and development and micro financing for energy service since 2060 or since one decade. SLREC has 4445 household electricity users/ consumers and electrification program is going on with partnership of Nepal electricity authority, DDC Lalitpur and concern 19VDCs in south lalitpur.
