Introduction
People in Need (PIN) is a non-governmental, non-profit, international organization founded in the Czech Republic in 1992. PIN arrived in Nepal as part of a humanitarian response to the April 25, 2015 earthquake. Since its inception in Nepal, PIN has had a strong role advocating and addressing the needs of marginalized populations. This includes people who live in geographically remote areas of Nepal, people who are from historically marginalized ethnic groups, and those marginalized because of their age and/or gender identity (women and girls). PIN has also supported Nepal's post-earthquake reconstruction efforts ensuring that the most vulnerable people are not left behind with resilience (focused on shelter and resettlement) and inclusive education programming. PIN-Nepal is strongly committed for safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults, including persons with disabilities, in line with its safeguarding framework and child protection policy.
Scope of work
Under the direct supervision of the Communication and Advocacy Manager, the Communications Officer will be primarily responsible for timely and effective communications & information sharing, and management of the project’s communication and visibility plan. S/he will be working closely with PIN’s Communication and Advocacy Manger, field-based Communication Technical Officer, Program/project Managers, different departments, staff, and implementing partners. S/he will be supporting PIN's Communication and Advocacy Manager for the overall visibility and communication of People in Need and its strategy. S/he will strictly adhere to PIN Code of Conduct and key policies including Media Policy, Child Protection, and Safeguarding Policy.
Task and Responsibilities
Social Media and Media Production
- Develop engaging content development (in Nepali and English) for PIN Nepal’s digital platforms (websites, microsites) and social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, twitter), including photographs, videos, or multimedia content. S/he is required to coordinate with PIN Nepal’s field team, local staff and partner’s team for necessary local language translation
- Create postcards, illustrative posts for social media
- Create infographics for reports, postcards for social media
- Create content, and regular update of PIN Nepal microsite
- Take photographs of projects, record audio-visual materials directly in the field, and produce articles, and multimedia content for PIN Nepal microsite and PIN global website based on it
- Extract ‘stories of change’ and ‘project achievements stories’ from the reports produced by PIN and partners, and produce visibility materials (blogpost, articles, infographic)
- Produce graphics ensuring they are in line with PIN’s Graphic Standard Manual and cooperates with HQ-based graphic designer
- Coordinate with each program to collect the information and pictures from field visits
- Responsible for following up with teams on receiving and archiving media consent forms and photos in PIN archiving system
- Facilitate the preparation and execution of workshops, conferences and events.
- Assist in preparing training materials
Administrative Tasks
- Liaise with logistics on the procurement process including production of communication materials, such as printing leaflets, brochures, banners, and preparing other visibility materials (such as t-shirts, bags, calendars, notebooks), & support identification of local service providers
- Archive the best photos of PIN projects that highlight the organization's work and values and upload them to Canto with proper captions and photo details
- Generate ideas and concepts to mark International/National Days and coordinate with PIN teams to execute the ideas
- Identify key messages and content of the programs, projects, and activities of the Organization to promote relevant information and stories in Nepal through traditional and social media
- Maintain journalists and other mass-multimedia stakeholders’ contact lists
- Adhere and support with PIN Nepal's "Greening Operation" approach in terms of content development and publication ·
Documentation/Reporting
- Assist Communication and Advocacy Manager in compiling communication reports to donors, and annual action plan
- Support program team and departments in collecting data, information and compiling it
- Translation (English to Nepali/Nepali to English, and other local languages where needed) of PIN visibility materials such as stories, brochures, leaflets, reports, etc.
- Transcribe audio/video content collected from the field (English to Nepali/Nepali to English)
- Support in the development of best practices, success stories, and case stories for different projects and interventions
- Other tasks as assigned by the line manager
Requirements
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Media Studies, Social Science or any relevant field
- Minimum of one year of experience in the relevant field of work, social behavior change communication, journalism, and mass media preferably in media houses or donor-funded related activities.
- Familiarity with computer skills including knowledge of relevant software like Microsoft Office, photo editing, and video editing tools like Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, InDesign, Canva and Capcut.
COMPETENCIES
- Demonstrated strong competencies in working with various donors, and media, and producing communication and visibility materials
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills
- Able to present information, and ideas and express opinions confidently to internal and external audiences
- Excellent verbal and written language skills in both English and Nepali. Other local language(s) is a plus
- Good photo/video/text editing skills
- Able to think creatively and translate creative thinking into tangible outputs
- Able to work effectively with other people and in the team
- Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability
- Excellent organization and planning skills.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS AND BENEFITS
- Salaries are according to People in Need Salary Scale. Candidates will be informed about the salaries in the beginning of the recruitment process
- Health insurance for both in-patient and out-patient care with maximum benefit limit of NPR 300,000.00 per year per person (Including dependents)
- Accident insurance for all injuries during work time NPR 3,000,000 per year (For Staff only)
