Reporting to: Project Field Coordinator

The position is offered to be a part of RRN’s team working on an ongoing project, Smallholder’s Empowerment by Entrepreneurship (in Agriculture) Development in Dolakha, Nepal - “SEED". This is a three years project funded by the protestant Agency for Diakonie and Development for Bread for the World protestant Development (BfDW) service started from October 2019.

The Agriculture Technician will be responsible to achieve the indicators set out for output results of agriculture-related activities and ensure sustainability of agriculture-related activities in Dolakha.

Job Description

A. Planning:

  1. Work closely with and in the guidance of District Field Coordinator/ thematic officer in planning, developing and implementing of all Income generating on and off-farm activities at the district.
  2. Ensure timely preparation of quarterly/annual plan with targets, budget and timeframe of the activities under the agriculture-related activities. 
  3. Conduct household survey (food sufficiency)  of the participants' beneficiaries/HHs
  4. Carry out needs assessments on training, seed supply and promotional activities and collect and clean data from field and enter data into database
  5. Ensure the active participation of poor women, girls, minority, ethnicity & socially excluded groups and  disaster-affected people in the activities

B. Implementation:

  1. Diversification of agriculture and promotion of organic practices
  2. Value chain promotion of agriculture commodities
  3. Conduct focus group discussions and meetings with organized farmers groups on performance of project
  4. Conduct field demonstrations, field days, trainings for farmers and stakeholders
  5. Facilitated  to the development of training manuals and promotional material for awareness generation 
  6. Maintain database and records on project activities and accomplishments
  7. Review and verify data and statistics to ensure quality and validity of results and analysis
  8. Identify, promote & use the sustainable Livelihoods approach to support and encourage community members, SHG, farmers to maximize their existing strength and develop new skills to generate their income.
  9. Support to identify existing local resources and proper utilization for maximizing the income of rural poor/women/Dalit/youth and disaster-affected people.
  10. Support to manage timely supply of inputs with improved technologies and skill to farmers groups, self-help groups.
  11. Support/work closely with other components and thematic officers and Social Mobilizer and project staff.

C. Monitoring and reporting 

  1. Ensure effective & timely implementation of approved activities and report from field/ communities. 
  2. Prepare of the monthly, quarterly and annual progress reports and submit to DFC
  3. Perform tasks, as assigned by the project Field Coordinator/ thematic officer. 

Job Specification

  • Agriculture/ veterinary technician certificate from recognized school.
  • Should be able to work in pressure and have good interpersonal skills.
  • Local/Women / Dalit/ Experience candidate will be given prioritized.
