Ipas Nepal is a non-profit international organization that works to increase women’s ability to exercise their sexual and reproductive health, including safe abortion and prevention and response to Gender-Based Violence. Since 2021 July Ipas Nepal is implementing the GBV PR II project in Koshi and in Sudurpashchim Province with financial support from SDC and Norwegian Embassy and technical and financial support from UNFPA. 

The main goal of Phase II is, in partnership with other agencies and service providers, to reduce all forms of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and discrimination against women and girls in Koshi and Sudurpashchim Province in Nepal. The project is implemented in four Rural Municipalities, 13 Municipalities, and two Metropolitan Cities in 8 districts (Morang, Okhaldhunga, Udayapur, Kailali, Accham, Bajhang, Bajura, and Baitadi) of these two provinces.

Background of the context

Ipas Nepal in collaboration with Consortium partners is providing services to the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) survivors through the shelter home/safehouse and One Stop Crisis Management Center (OCMC). The project has been capacitating the safe home/ shelter house staff on gender-transformative approaches and survivor-centric approaches for the efficient operation and management of the safe house/shelter home. In these circumstances, Ipas Nepal has developed a training package for Shelter home/safehouse staff and planning to endorse it by Ministry of women and senior citizen (MoWCSC). In order to share training manual to the MoWCSC, and other concerned stakeholders, there is a need translate the training package in Nepali. 

Objectives of the assignment

The overall objective of the assignment is to translate ‘training manual for safe home/ shelter home’ package in Nepali.

The specific objective of the assignment is: 

  • To translate the facilitators’ guide and participants’ handbook for the safe house/shelter home staff training package into the Nepali language without losing the essence and theme of the words, sentences, and content.

Scope of Assignment

  • Translation of documents must not lose the original nature and subject of the texts
  • Consultant should coordinate and collaborate with relevant stakeholders and incorporate necessary feedback and suggestions.

Level of Effort

The consultancy period will begin from August 15, 2023 – September 30, 2023 within which the consultant is expected to work for not exceeding 20 days after signing the agreement for this assignment.

  • Facilitators’ Guide for safe house/shelter home staffs training in Nepali format approx. 245 pages
  • Reference manual and Participants’ Handbook for safe house/shelter home staff training in Nepali format approx. 132 pages
  • Final translated documents’ formatting needs to be same as the original document

Experience requirements:

  • Must have excellent command of spoken and written English and Nepali language
  • Good command of English and Nepali languages, and typing skills in both English and Nepali
  • Should have at least 3 years prior experience in Nepali to English and English to Nepali translation
  • Preference will be given to those with an experience in translating documents related to psychosocial/mental health and/or GBV
  • Knowledge of Gender-Based Violence/ Gender transformative approach is desirable
  • Ability to operate under strict time limits and maintain a high level of professionalism
