Heifer Project International Nepal (HPIN) is a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to ending hunger and poverty and caring for the earth by providing livestock, education, and other resources to help poor families become self-reliant. HPIN invites applications from eligible Nepali citizens for the following position for the “Innovation in Agro-Livestock Value Chains Development in Nepal (IALVC)” Project. 

Program Manager – Cooperative Development 

Major Roles and Responsibility:

The Program Manager - Cooperative Development will be responsible for ensuring the successful and efficient functioning of all primary cooperatives/farmer-owned agri-businesses (FOABs), district unions, and apex body in the program in line with Heifer’s vision, mission, goal, objectives, policies, and procedures. S/he will work closely with regional offices, country office departments and external stakeholders to improve cooperative governance, financial management and linkages and coordination with other institutions. S/he will collaborate with local/provincial/federal governments to implement the project and generate resources to ensure long-term sustainability of cooperatives.  The Manager will also focus on building the capacity of local partners and provide continuous support to enhance the capacity of cooperatives and FOABs.  

Minimum Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized university in Business Administration, Economics, Business Studies, Agriculture, or related field is required, plus at least seven (7) years of related experience, including two (2) years in a supervisory role, OR
  • Master’s degree from a recognized university with at least five (5) years of relevant experience, including two (2) years in a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge and experience working with subnational government, NGO and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders.

Program Officer- 1

Major Roles and Responsibility:

The Program Officer will serve in accordance with HPIN’s vision, mission, goal, objectives, policies, and procedures. S/he will coordinate with thematic leads to provide oversight in social capital, supply chain, market system development and cooperative development aspects of the project and provide strategic guidance and support to project partners, self-help groups (SHGs), cooperatives, and local governments for effective project implementation. The Officer will also build the capacity of local partners and provide continuous backstopping for optimum project results.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from a recognized university in Business Administration, Rural Development Studies, Business Studies, Agriculture, Veterinary science, or a related field plus a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a similar context is required.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Time management and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools, electronic mail (Microsoft office preferred), and internet.
  • Good leadership qualities and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

Finance Officer- 1

Major Roles and Responsibility:

The Finance Officer will assist with financial and accounting aspects of the country program office and maintain the accountability of Heifer Nepal’s project partners in accordance with HPI objectives, policies and procedures. This position requires extensive travel and will be based in the field office.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from a recognized university in Business Administration, Business Studies, or a related field plus a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a similar context.  
  • Experience in the public procurement process of Nepal and managing government grants will be an added advantage.
  • Practical experience in various aspects of accounting principles and practices with a good understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Basic understanding and sensitivity to issues associated with poverty, hunger and the environment.
  • Strong skills in budgeting and reporting, and the ability to analyze and interpret financial reports.
  • Computer proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, electronic mail and internet (Microsoft preferred).
  • Proficient in English, both spoken and written.
