Production of Video on KOSHISH’s Empowerment Approach and Journey of Peer Support Group Members

1. Organizational Background

KOSHISH is a national-level organization established in 2008 to promote mental health and psychosocial wellbeing in Nepal. KOSHISH is Nepal's leading Organization of Persons with Disabilities (OPD) focused on psychosocial disability. It works to promote the rights, recovery, participation, and inclusion of persons with psychosocial disabilities.

KOSHISH is guided by the principle of “Nothing About Us Without Us” and works through a rights-based, person-centered, and recovery-oriented approach. Its major areas of work include advocacy, community engagement, capacity building, peer support, and promotion of the rights of persons with psychosocial disabilities.

2. Background of the Assignment

Under the Mainstreaming Mental Health through Self-Advocacy (Phase IV) project, KOSHISH is facilitating Peer Support Groups (PSGs) to promote peer support, self-advocacy, rights awareness, confidence, recovery, and participation of persons with psychosocial disabilities.

PSGs provide a platform for members to share their experiences, support each other, learn about their rights, and participate in self-advocacy and community-level activities.

KOSHISH’s approach supports members to move from receiving peer support to becoming active participants in self-help, self-advocacy, leadership, and disability rights movements. Through this process, members may become involved in Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and engage with OPDs, strengthening their confidence, participation, leadership, and ability to advocate for their rights.

KOSHISH plans to document this empowerment journey through a video featuring selected members from Pokhara, Hetauda and Lalitpur. The video will present both individual experiences and the broader approach through which KOSHISH supports empowerment.

3. Purpose of the Assignment

The purpose of this assignment is to produce a 20 min high-quality (4K) video documenting the empowerment journey of selected members and demonstrating KOSHISH’s approach from (PSGs to SHGs and engagement with OPDs. The video will show how peer support, self-help, self-advocacy, participation, and leadership contribute to empowerment and meaningful engagement in family, community, and wider society.

4. Objectives

4.1 General Objective

To produce a video that demonstrates KOSHISH’s empowerment approach and highlights the experiences, changes, participation, and self-advocacy journey of selected members under the Mainstreaming Mental Health through Self-Advocacy (Phase IV) project.

4.2 Specific Objectives

• To document the lived experiences and empowerment journey of selected members.
• To demonstrate the pathway from PSGs to SHGs and engagement with OPDs, where applicable.
• To show how peer support and self-help contribute to increased confidence, rights awareness, self-advocacy, participation, and leadership.
• To showcase members’ participation in family and community decision-making and engagement with local government and other stakeholders.
• To highlight meaningful changes in as access to mental health services, livelihood opportunities, community participation, and other forms of support, where relevant.
• To share the experiences and messages of members and demonstrate KOSHISH’s empowerment approach to relevant stakeholders and the wider community.

5. Scope of Work

The consultant/production team shall undertake the following tasks:

5.1 Pre-Production and Planning

• Conduct an inception meeting with the KOSHISH team to understand the project, empowerment approach, PSG, SHG and OPD linkages, and purpose of the video.
• Review relevant project information and materials provided by KOSHISH.
• Develop the video concept, storyline, filming plan, work schedule and interview questions in consultation with KOSHISH to capture both individual experiences and the broader empowerment journey.
• Identify selected members and other relevant participants for filming in consultation with KOSHISH.
• Coordinate with KOSHISH regarding filming locations, participants, schedules, and logistics.

5.2 Video Production

• Conduct interviews with selected members and relevant stakeholders, as appropriate.
• Document the lived experiences, changes, achievements, and perspectives of selected members and their families.
• Capture relevant footage of PSG meetings, peer support activities, SHG activities, self-advocacy activities, community participation, engagement with local government/OPDs, household level activities and other relevant activities.
• Show, through real experiences and activities, how members move from receiving peer support towards self-help, self-advocacy, leadership, and wider participation.
• Capture high-quality video and sound, including appropriate supporting footage for the final video.
• Ensure that the video reflects the real experiences and voices of members and clearly communicates KOSHISH’s empowerment approach.

The video may cover the following themes:

• Experience of members before and after joining and participating in PSGs and receiving and providing peer support.
• Transition or participation in SHGs and collective self-help activities, changes in confidence, rights awareness, ability to speak for oneself.
• Engagement with OPDs and participation in disability rights and advocacy activities, where applicable.
• Development of self-advocacy and leadership skills and participation in family and decision-making.
• Engagement with local government and other stakeholders.
• Access to mental health services, livelihood support, or other meaningful opportunities, where relevant.
• Future aspirations and messages of members.

5.3 Post-Production and Finalization

• Edit the recorded footage into a clear, coherent, and engaging story that communicates both individual journeys and KOSHISH’s empowerment approach.
• Prepare and submit the first draft of the video for review by KOSHISH.
• Incorporate comments and feedback provided by KOSHISH.
• Add subtitles/captions in English, sign language, titles, graphics, and other relevant information as required.
• Prepare short video clips for social media, where required and agreed with KOSHISH.
• Submit the final edited video in the agreed format and quality.

6. Ethical Considerations and Safeguarding

• Obtain free and informed consent from all participants before filming.
• Respect the privacy, dignity, autonomy, and choices of participants.
• Ensure voluntary participation and the right of participants to withdraw from filming where applicable.
• Avoid stigmatizing, discriminatory, or stereotypical representation.
• Follow KOSHISH’s safeguarding and Do No Harm principles.
• Ensure that participants are comfortable with the final presentation of their experiences and stories.
• Present members as rights holders with agency, voice, leadership, and decision-making capacity.

7. Deliverables

• Approved video concept, storyline, and production/filming plan.
• Interview questions/guide.
• Raw video footage and relevant source files.
• First draft of the video.
• Revised/final edited video incorporating KOSHISH’s feedback.
• Short video clips for social media, as agreed.
• Final video 20 Minutes (10 min each) with subtitles/captions and sign language, as required.

8. Assignment Period and Reporting

The assignment will be completed within 45 days from the date of contract agreement.

The consultant/production team will work in close coordination with the designated focal person/ Advocacy manager of KOSHISH and the project team and will provide updates and drafts as agreed during the production process.

9. Roles and Responsibilities

9.1 Responsibilities of KOSHISH

• Provide relevant project information and materials required for the video production.
• Facilitate coordination with selected members, stakeholders, and relevant locations.
• Review and provide feedback on the video concept, storyline, draft, and final product.
• Provide agreed contractual payment upon satisfactory completion of deliverables.

9.2 Responsibilities of the Consultant/Production Team

• Maintain professional standards throughout the assignment.
• Ensure quality video production (4K), sound recording, editing, and post-production.
• Maintain confidentiality and obtain informed consent from participants.
• Follow ethical, safeguarding, rights-based, and Do No Harm principles.
• Complete the agreed deliverables within the agreed timeline.

10. Required Qualifications and Experience

• Demonstrated experience (at least of 5 years) in video production, documentary, human-interest storytelling, or development-sector communication.
• Experience in documentary productions and developing human-interest stories.
• Team with professional skills in videography, sound recording, editing, and post-production.
• Experience working with persons with disabilities, community groups, or rights-holders will be an advantage.
• Understanding of mental health, psychosocial disability, disability rights, and social inclusion will be an advantage.

11. Confidentiality and Intellectual Property

All information, footage, photographs, recordings, and other materials obtained or produced under this assignment shall be treated as confidential and shall be used only for the agreed purpose. Final outputs and source materials produced under the assignment shall be handed over to KOSHISH. Any external use of the materials shall require prior approval from KOSHISH.

12. Payment

Payment will be made based on the agreed deliverables:

• 30% upon approval of the video concept and production plan.
• 40% upon submission of the first draft video.
• 30% upon submission and approval of the final video and agreed deliverables.

Applicable taxes will be deducted as per the prevailing Government of Nepal rules.

13. Proposal Submission

Interested consultant’s/production companies are requested to submit:

• Technical proposal, including understanding of the assignment, methodology, and work plan.
• Financial proposal in NPR, including applicable taxes and other costs.
• CV/profile of the consultant or production team.
• Samples/links of previous video production work.
• Company registration, PAN/VAT, and tax clearance documents, where applicable.

Proposals must be submitted in a sealed envelope, clearly marked “Consultancy Service for Production of Video on KOSHISH’s Empowerment Approach and Journey of Peer Support Group Members” and delivered by courier or hand to: KOSHISH Central Office, Daksinkali Marg, Balkhu, Kathmandu by October 14th 2026.
