“Development of a Video Documentary to Capture the Process, Learning, best practices and Achievements of TLTN Project in West Nawlparasi district”. 

1. Background Information:

The Society for Integrated Allied Nepal (SIAN) is a national NGO that was established in 2004 with the aim of promoting inclusive development, democracy, and human resource development by addressing health and nutrition, WASH, education, and access to opportunities for local communities. SIAN is an autonomous, non- political, and non-profit organization run by representatives of civil society and development professionals who actively work in rural development, health and nutrition, WASH, GEDSI, Climate change, Social Inclusion, education, human rights, inclusive democracy, child rights, livelihood, gender, and environmental issues. SIAN is a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting quality education, livelihood, health, good governance, and well-being of poor and marginalized Nepalese people. Through its focus on children, women, marginalized, and rural communities, SIAN sets holistic development goals to create a transformed and interdependent society. The organization envisions a new Nepal achieved through positive transformation of the socio-economic aspects of society and individuals, through capacity enhancement and optimal utilization of local resources. Since its inception, SIAN has been working towards providing quality education to Nepalese children, creating safe environments that uphold their dignity, respect, food security, income generation, health, and security, regardless of their gender, ethnicity, or religion.

Since May 2024, in partnership with iDE Nepal, Society for Integrated Allied Nepal (SIAN) is implanting an Integrated Project “Transforming Lives Through Nutrition (TLTN)” in West Nawalparasi district of Lumbini Province Nepal. This is a consortium project includes HKI, Vitamin Angels and iDE Nepal.  The goal of the project is to Improved health, and nutrition, along with economic growth, engage market system with a focus on pregnant and lactating women and children under 2 years.  In West Nawalparasi district, the Project is working in 3 major focus area like Agriculture and Food System, Supply Chain and Small market enterprises and Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). The project will work on both the supply and demand side to improve nutrition in communities. In doing so, the project will create exponential impacts, particularly around the household level underlying determinants of good nutrition defined by UNICEF's 2020 Conceptual Framework on the Determinants of Maternal and Child Nutrition (that is: Food, Practices, and Services),While collaborating others to influence the community/ society level nutritional enabling determinants such as nutrition governance and social norms (eg, GESI).

2. Rationale:

Producing a video documentary for SIAN’s Transforming Lives Through Nutrition (TLTN) Project is a highly effective strategy to raise awareness and encourage positive nutritional practices. This approach plays a crucial role in mass sensitization by highlighting the significance of nutrition-sensitive interventions and their integration with various components. Through visual storytelling, the documentary can vividly demonstrate the relevance of the project’s activities, lessons learned, best practices, and gather qualitative insights. Featuring real-life stories and testimonials from community members who have benefited from the project, it can inspire communities to adopt healthier behaviors, enhance nutrition awareness, increase the consumption of diverse fruits and vegetables, promote home gardening as a productive and entrepreneurial practice, and ensure the sustainability of WASH interventions. The documentary’s dissemination across various platforms will help reach diverse audiences, fostering a collective commitment to sustainable and improved nutrition practices.

3. Objective

The primary objective of the video documentary is to capture the voices of beneficiaries and stakeholders, present the project’s achievements, highlight key learnings and best practices, and showcase the overall impact of the project. The documentary will serve as a communication tool to share with donors, stakeholders, and the community.

4. Focus of the Assignment:

At the core of the assignment is the production of video (10-15 minutes) that presents SIAN’s short introductions, goals, mission, objective, scope and history. In addition, the video covers the TLTN projects Goals, strategic objectives, focus area, milestones and so on. The video will more focus on the project achievements, learning, best practices, success stories of beneficiaries, beneficiaries and stakeholders’ voices etc. The major goal of preparing a project video documentary is to effectively showcase the project's achievements, lessons learned, best practices, and real-life success stories, while also amplifying the voices of beneficiaries and stakeholders. This visual storytelling approach aims to raise awareness, inspire community engagement, and demonstrate the project's positive impact, thereby fostering support and advocacy for sustained and improved practices.

5. Target Audience: 

5.1. Primary Audience: TLTN project Key stakeholders, household-level community members, local leaders, and policymakers Nutrition and Livelihood, health, and Water Sanitation and Hygiene sector.

5.2. Secondary Audience: Interested donors, line agencies, NGOs working on Integrated Nutrition and Livelihood, WASH and sustainable development, as well as the public reached through social media platforms.

6. Scope of Work:

The consultant/production team will be responsible for:

  • Concept development and scripting in coordination with the project team.
  • Conducting field visits to capture beneficiaries' stories and stakeholders' perspectives.
  • Filming key activities, achievements, and success stories.
  • Producing a high-quality documentary (10-15 minutes) with subtitles and professional voice-over.
  • Creating short video clips (2-3 minutes) for social media and promotional use.
  • Editing and post-production, including graphics, animations, and background music.

7. Deliverables:

  • A detailed work plan including timeline and methodology.
  • Draft script and storyboard for approval.
  • Raw footage and audio recordings.
  • Final edited video documentary (10-15 minutes) with subtitles and voice-over.
  • Short video clips (2-3 minutes) for social media.
  • A brief report summarizing the process, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • 20 HD quality Photos with caption which is visually appealing and showing impact.
  • Compilation of consent forms from all people who appear on the video and in the photographs.

8. Work Principles and some Guidance notes:

  • The firm/service provider is expected to work closely with SIAN at all stages of the production including the planning stage to ensure that video content and messaging are appropriate. 
  • The firm/service provider must ensure that footage taken reflects different environments, that interviews take place in areas with no sound interference. 
  • Footage and storyboards will be based on a mix of interviews arranged with stakeholders, and realities encountered in programme areas, and infographics. 
  • All resultant outputs will be produced in line with iDE/SIAN corporate branding guidelines, and other relevant standards (e.g., SIAN Child Protection Policy)
  • SIAN will coordinate and consolidate the required review and approval processes and ensure that that go/ no go moments (or approval points) are incorporated in the video planning and production phases. 
  • Copyright and intellectual property rights: By entering into a contractual agreement with SIAN on this project, it is understood that SIAN will retain non-exclusive concomitant copyrights on all video formats (and photos) delivered as part of this assignment, in all media, in perpetuity.

9. Duration and Timeline:

The assignment is expected to take approximately 20 Days, starting from 25th May 2025. The final product should be delivered by 15th of June 2025.

10. Implementation Arrangements: 

The filming firm will travel to the project site i.e., West Nawalparasi district. The firm will record the video story of beneficiaries, CBF, entrepreneurs, Pregnant and lactating women as well as footage of contextual scenarios. The firm will be accompanied by an SIAN staff who will facilitate the interview and the recording. The focal person from the firm will report directly to the SIAN Project Coordinator and will work closely with the iDE Nepal country office team and the Communication focal point.

11. Required Expertise:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in documentary filmmaking, particularly within the development sectors, including planning shoots, capturing footage, video editing, and integrating subtitles, infographics, and background music.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating successful documentary projects with NGOs and sustainability initiatives, showcasing exceptional production value and reliable delivery record 
  • Possesses an extensive and specialist range of (portable) video and audio equipment (e.g., cameras, lenses, lighting, audio recording, own laptop, etc.). 
  • Possesses specialist video editing equipment and software to carry out the entire process of video production. 
  • Advanced interviewing and storytelling skills that effectively capture authentic narratives.
  • Availability to travel to (and around) project sites 
  • Availability throughout the duration of the project is a must. 
  • Excellent coordination and communication skills.

12. Intellectual Property:

All edited videos and source files will remain the property of the SIAN and TLTN Project. The video editors must transfer all rights upon submission of the final deliverables and agree not to use the footage for any purpose outside this project without prior permission.

13. Proposal Requirements:

Interested firms or service providers are invited to submit their proposals via email to procurement.sian@gmail.com or deliver sealed hard copies to the SIAN Head Office at Bijulibazar-10, Opposite of Prabhu Bank Head Office, Kathmandu, Nepal OR SIAN Field office, Ramgram Municipality-05, West Nawalparasi. 

The proposal should include following documents: 

  • A technical proposal: Letter of Interest, stating why you consider yourself/your firm suitable for the assignment
  • Financial proposal indicating consultancy fee and a breakdown of expenses (unit price together with any other expenses) related to the assignment (should have the details of daily rates of the experts, editing and material costs and travel/DSA). 
  • Copy of Company Registration & Tax Clearance Certificate of Last fiscal Year. 
  • Copy of VAT Registration
