Terms of Reference for Trainer - Music Production

1. Introduction

Evolving from a recording and sound engineering hub to a multifaceted enterprise, Skathi now leads projects in event and artist management, artist and professional development, audio-visual production, and groundbreaking initiatives like GOD IS A WOMAN, Nepal’s first platform dedicated to female HipHop artists. With a core team and an extensive network of collaborators, Skathi is shaping the future of Nepal’s music industry through strategic artist development, sustainable policies and models, and a commitment to global recognition. 

2. Background

In response to the challenges, identified knowledge gaps, infrastructure roadblocks, and absence of holistic support systems, Skathi Entertainment has taken a significant step further by partnering with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation to implement a 4-year Arts & Culture Programme. With a competent project team in place and operational readiness, the project dives deep into research, industry professional trainings, artist development workshops, and collaborations to create a new blueprint for the Music & Entertainment industry. This is the second training under the industry professional training. 

3. Training Description

Title - Music Production 

Date - 16th June, 2025 - 25th July, 2025

Location - Skathi Entertainment, Manmati Marg, Bafal, Kathmandu

This training is designed to help emerging and entry-level music professionals develop their practical, technical, and creative skills in music production. It will provide participants with a strong foundation in using industry-standard tools and techniques, while also offering insights into current practices and trends within the music industry. The goal is to prepare participants to confidently take on music production projects and build sustainable careers within Nepal’s growing and dynamic music scene.

4. Scope of Work

The trainer is required to design and lead a hands-on, skill-based music production training aimed at enhancing the technical, creative, and workflow capabilities of emerging and entry-level producers. The training should include structured lessons, practical exercises, guided studio sessions, and collaborative project work to help participants build a solid foundation in digital music production. The trainer is expected to deliver the training inclusively and engagingly, ensuring active participation, continuous feedback, and meaningful learning experiences for all attendees. The training should support participants in developing original works, gaining confidence in using professional tools, and understanding key elements of music production from composition to final mix.

The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:

  1. Design Training Curriculum: Develop a structured session plan that covers core areas of music production, including digital audio workstations (DAWs), beatmaking, recording techniques, sound design, arranging, mixing, and mastering.
  2. Facilitate Practical Sessions: Conduct interactive sessions focused on hands-on learning, in-studio demonstrations, guided production tasks, and group-based project work.
  3. Deliver Technical and Creative Coaching: Provide insights into production workflows, creative decision-making, and problem-solving in the context of real-world projects.
  4. Provide Learning Materials: Prepare and share relevant resources such as reference tracks and video tutorials to support participant learning.
  5. Track and Support Participant Progress: Offer individualized feedback, troubleshoot technical challenges, and guide participants in developing at least one complete production project.
  6. Submit Training Report and Feedback: Prepare a summary report of the training sessions, including key highlights, participant feedback, challenges, and recommendations for future programs.

The individual consultant is expected to deliver the following outcomes:

  1. Improved Technical Proficiency: Participants will gain working knowledge of music production tools, techniques, and software.
  2. Creative Growth and Output: Each participant will complete at least one original production, showcasing their creative and technical development.
  3. Enhanced Workflow Skills: Participants will learn how to manage production timelines, organize sessions, and prepare music for release or performance.
  4. Collaborative Learning and Peer Exchange: The training will encourage peer-to-peer collaboration, critique, and knowledge sharing.
  5. Increased Confidence and Industry Readiness: Through hands-on practice and expert feedback, participants will be better prepared to pursue opportunities in music production.
  6. Alignment with Program Goals: All training activities and outcomes will support the broader objectives of Skathi Entertainment’s Arts & Culture Programme.

5. Qualifications and Skills required

  • At least 5 years of experience in music production, with strong skills in DAWs, composing, arranging, recording, mixing, and mastering.
  • Prior experience facilitating workshops or training sessions with diverse participants.
  • Clear, inclusive communication style and ability to provide constructive, personalized feedback.
  • Familiarity with current music production trends and a basic understanding of copyright and distribution is a plus.
