Shanti Volunteer Association (SVA) Nepal is an international non-governmental organization committed to promoting a peaceful society where people can “Live Together and Learn Together,” while respecting human dignity and diversity. Since its establishment in Nepal, SVA has been supporting initiatives such as school construction and disaster risk reduction (DRR) education under emergency relief, community library promotion, local curriculum development, nutrition education, and the establishment of community libraries and resource centers for technical education and vocational training.

SVA will implement the project titled “Improvement of Basic Education at Community Schools through Early Childhood Education and Development (ECED)” starting from March 2026, in collaboration with local implementing partner NGOs in Lalitpur and Sankhuwasabha districts. Interested and qualified Nepalese candidates are invited to apply for the following position:

Position Summary

The Senior Project Officer (SPO) will serve for the implementation of the “Improvement of Basic Education at Community Schools through Early Childhood Education and Development (ECED)” project under the supervision of the Project Manager. This role ensures effective delivery of project interventions across partner NGOs, municipalities, schools, and communities by providing technical guidance, capacity building, and monitoring support. It emphasizes child-centered, inclusive, and play-based learning approaches, ensuring alignment with national ECED policies, the School Education Sector Plan (SESP), and child safeguarding standards. Responsibilities also include technically supporting classroom improvement, curriculum adaptation, learning materials development, and community engagement, and knowledge management to enhance foundational learning, school readiness, and sustainable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Support for ECED and Basic Education

  • Engage in the workshop and manual content development for child-friendly teaching methodology (e.g. classroom arrangement, storytelling, learning material development, etc.) in alignment with the ECED policies and curriculum, School Education Sector Plan (SESP) and other relevant policies and guidelines as well as global ECED practices.
  • Facilitate the training, workshop and awareness raising activities for ECED facilitators, teachers, SMC and local community, in cooperation with PNGO staff.
  • Support and engage in the surveys and follow-up monitoring of the target schools and communities.
  • Support in publication of picture books, Kamishibai and other educational materials.
  • Ensure adaptation to the local context and cultural/linguistic diversity at all corners of the project.

2. Support in Project Management including Community Engagement

  • Assist Project Manager in overall project planning, implementation and reporting.
  • Coordinate with partner NGOs (PNGOs), municipalities, schools, teachers, PTAs/SMCs, and community stakeholders for effective project implementation.
  • Assist in surveys, data collection, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Other responsibilities assigned by the Project Manager.

Required Qualifications & Competencies

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in early childhood education, Education, Social Work, Child Development, or related fields.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in ECED program management, including curriculum/manual development, teacher/facilitator training, classroom support, and quality improvement of ECED centers, preferably in community school contexts.
  • Strong knowledge of Nepal’s national ECED policies, School Education Sector Plan (SESP), child protection standards, and inclusive education principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor education interventions across multiple stakeholders.
  • Good experience in documentation, reporting, knowledge management, and facilitating training using participatory/adult-learning methods.
  • Strong skills and experience in coordination, communication, and stakeholder engagement, with a commitment to child rights, safeguarding, and gender equality.
  • Fluency in Nepali and English, both written and spoken.
  • Willingness to travel extensively to remote and mountainous project locations.

Desirable Skills

  • Prior experience in multi-ethnic and multi-lingual classroom settings.
  • Experience in school infrastructure and WASH facility improvement projects.
  • Familiarity with classroom arrangement, learning material development, storytelling, reading promotion, and play-based learning.
