OHW works with local communities and local health service providers to develop a culturally appropriate Network of Safety around mothers and infants, by raising awareness, teaching good practices, and distributing essential equipment to ensure that mothers and infants survive delivery and the first months of life.

Position: Senior Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Officer

Duty Station: Kathmandu, with a minimum of 40% field travel required.

The Senior Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Officer will collaborate with the team to manage the MEL database and oversee MEL system operations. This role involves supporting evaluation and learning activities while delivering strategic insights for effective planning and implementation of OHW’s projects. Regular visits to program sites will be conducted to gather essential information and monitor the progress of various interventions.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely and regular reporting from the districts, review reports and provide the necessary feedback for the quality and complete reporting from the districts as per the prescribed format
  • Prepare summary reports based on analysis of data and report on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Track program progress against established standards, identify gaps on time and communicate with concerned staff with possible solutions
  • Contribute to the design, development, and updating of OHW’s database and MEL systems using MEL software, Google Sheets, KOBO, and other online platforms, in close coordination with Kathmandu, cluster, and district teams.
  • Coordinate with relevant government offices to strengthen the quality of service statistics and support the implementation of e-recording and e-reporting systems.
  • Ensure effective implementation of MEL systems by partner organizations, providing guidance and oversight as needed.
  • Regularly update, analyze, and prepare reports on maternal and neonatal health service data.
  • Conduct field visits to monitor OHW interventions and provide technical support to program teams on proper data recording and reporting.
  • Implement available measures including routine data quality assessment to ensure the quality of data
  • Support in program planning by providing high-quality data and information
  • Support in design and implementation of studies including baseline and end line
  • Support organizing and conducting training and capacity building sessions on MEL and MIS for program team
  • Document and share the lessons learnt from field monitoring and analysis of data in order to progressively improve the quality of OHW interventions
  • Support to prepare a technical brief of identified program in close coordination with supervisor.
  • Support to design and develop a tools for innovative projects as per need of organization.
  • Perform other related duties assigned by the supervisors.

Job Specifications:

Academic qualification and work experience:

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, with a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience, including work in MNCH programs.
  • Prior experience in MEL software development, customization, and updates is an added advantage.
  • Skills and Abilities
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize and present information clearly and concisely.
  • Proficiency in KOBO and DHIS, including the ability to design data collection tools, forms, and formats across multiple platforms.
  • Advanced computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, GIS, and statistical software such as STATA or SPSS, as well as data visualization tools like Power BI.
  • Excellent organizational abilities, with a proven capacity to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while ensuring high-quality outputs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams. 
  • Advanced proficiency in English and Nepali (both oral and written).
