Background

The Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) is a large-scale clinical and public health research unit, with sites offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam, Jakarta in Indonesia and Kathmandu in Nepal.

Key responsibilities and tasks
  • Assist with Laboratory Procedures: Carry out tests, analyses, and experiments under microbiological and molecular techniques including DNA extraction/quantifications/PCR/gel runs.  
  • Sample Collection: Collect various biological specimens such as nasal swabs, and oropharyngeal swabs, as specified by study protocols.
  • Sample Management: Ensure safe transfer, handling, and storage of samples according to established protocols to maintain integrity.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Support in the cleaning, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Data Collection & Documentation: Gather, record, and organize both paper-based and electronic data accurately and legibly, maintaining detailed and up-to-date records in compliance with study protocols.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow laboratory safety protocols to ensure a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
Requirements

Essential:

  • B.Sc. in Microbiology

  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.

  • Proficient in microbiological and basic molecular techniques including DNA extraction, PCR.

  • Able to prepare and maintain laboratory documents including protocols, standard operating procedures, guidelines, forms, manuals etc.

  • Competent in the use of computer applications, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel, for documentation and data management.

  • Familiarity with laboratory safety practices.
  • Ability to work in a team and take initiative in learning.
