We take a systems-based approach in our programming, with the aim of improving the lives and potential of vulnerable individuals and communities across Nepal.
BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE
Since 2008, Mercy Corps has been working in the sector of financial services to increase access to finance for the remote rural population in Nepal. Mercy Corps financial services has been designed to facilitate a range of innovative yet tested approaches to access to finance and livelihoods opportunities focused on stimulating the demand of financial services at the community level (strengthening of community institutions, VSLA formalization, financial literacy trainings, livelihood support and improving market linkages) along with strengthening the supply of financial services by supporting financial institutions to design and deliver commercially viable products and services.
Mercy Corps works with savings groups, VSLAs, community-based cooperatives, MFIs and Commercial Banks. Till the end of 2018, Mercy Corps has facilitated enrolment of more than 170,000 people into cooperatives, MFIs and Banks and contributed in increased access to improved financial services for more than 236,000 people. In addition to strengthen the capacities of local financial institutions.
Since 2013, Mercy Corps has been implementing a comprehensive financial literacy training (FLT) for the community members.Mercy Corps has supported FLT delivery to more than 117,000 community members across Mercy Corps programs/projects, majority of whom are the clients of savings groups, VSLAs, cooperatives or MFIs. Building on the experience of implementing adult financial literacy, Mercy Corps designed, tested and rolled out youth financial literacy training curriculum targeted to youth aged 12-20 in SAFAL-II program. The youth financial literacy is being replicated in Mercy Corps other programs such as STEM II and SERVE. Until the end of 2018 Mercy Corps has delivered this training to more than 8,000 youth.
Through this RFP, Mercy Corps Nepal would like to seek the consultancy service for following 2 separate activities:
1. Consultancy service for Impact Study on Financial Literacy Training (FLT)
2. Consultancy service for Impact Study on Youth Financial Literacy Training (YFLT)
