Dalit Lives Matter is a leading social movement dedicated to ending caste-based inequality and advancing the fundamental rights and dignity of Dalit communities. By fostering strategic local, regional, and global alliances, the movement seeks to collectively dismantlethe systemic injustices historically faced by Dalits.

In Nepal, the Dalit Lives Matter Global Alliance (DLMGA) serves as the movement’s vanguard and implements intersectional framework-based programming anchored in inclusivity, participation, and a people-centred ethos.

Project Summary

DLMGA in partnership with FCA Nepal and Shanta Foundation is implementing EU-funded Voices of Change: Building Futures through Creativity, Identity and Action in Nepal, a project designed to strengthen the creative potential, leadership, and social inclusion of marginalized youth across Nepal’s Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) in Madhesh and Sudurpaschim Province.

Job Title:  Project Officer - 1

Location: Kathmandu, with frequent travel to field locations

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning and Implementation

  • Prepare detail project activity plans, budget and timeline in alignment with project guidelines and priorities
  • Represent DLMGA in the Project Implementation Team (PIT) and support the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of programme  implementation
  • Liaise with relevant government authorities to promote their engagement and ensure smooth coordination in project locations
  • Identify and coordinate with relevant local CSOs, CBOs, youth groups, artists, and stakeholders for smooth execution of project activities and promote community engagement
  • Engage with media at the federal, provincial and local level to amplify the project effort, visibility and delivery
  • Support the Operations and Finance Team to identify and employ competent researcher(s) to conduct policy review and analysis in the Nepali CCI sector
  • Work closely and support the research team conduct the policy review and analysis
  • Lead the administrative and logistics arrangement for different events (cultural activities, exhibitions, festivals, dialogues) in provincial levels
  • Support to conduct need assessment of local CSOs and CBOs to enhance their capacity on leadership, human rights advocacy,and art therapy methods

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Support to design and implement monitoring and evaluation plan, frameworks using appropriate tools to keep project deliverables on track
  • Regularly update project work plan and performance indicators tracking table
  • Support the Finance Team to prepare ‘Budget Vs Actual Expenditure’ on a quarterly basis to track and monitor project activities and expenses

Reporting, Documentation and Communication

  • Support the Project Coordinator to produce and submit quality periodic project reports
  • Maintain documentation and archiving of project related documents and resources
  • Support the Project Coordinator to produce quality publications, communication/ visibility materials and other relevant project outputs
  • Develop and share event report, field visit reports, event log sheets outlying the status of project intervention and its possible outcomes
  • Coordinate with the Communications Officer to create and share engaging content (audio, visual, text, and/or graphic) to ensure project updates, achievements and activities are visible in media including social media platforms
  • Document success stories, good practices, lesson learnt and case studies
  • Prepare and deliver engaging presentations to share project updates, achievements, challenges, and lessons learnt in relevant events, meetings, training and workshops

Required qualification and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, development studies, arts or related field with at least three years of relevant experience out of which minimum 2 year should be for EU project
  • Proven experience working with young people from/ with Dalit, women, LGBTQIA+ and other marginalized communities
  • Experience working with government and non-government agencies, particularly in cultural and creative sector, Dalit, women and youth empowerment, movement building, entrepreneurship, and rights-based advocacy
  • Deep understanding of social inclusion, caste, gender, and youth issues
  • Ability to work under pressure in a structured, organized, and responsive manner with multicultural team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Nepali, with proficiency in MS Office, fluency in Maithili, Bhojpuri, Bajjika is advantage
  • Strong writing skills, and good communication and facilitation skills. Willingness to travel to project locations
