Forum for Community Upliftment System Nepal (FOCUS-Nepal) Dhading a NGO working in diversified field in Dhading, District. Currently, it is looking for the potential candidates for the following position:

1) Position: Psychosocial Counsellor

REPORTS TO

Executive Director/Focal Person

WORKING LOCATION

Based in Dhadingbesi & frequently travel to project implement R/Ms

Under the overall guidance of Executive Director, the Psychosocial Counsellor will carry out psychosocial counseling and orientations on the basis of needs. 

The prospective Counsellor should

  • Demonstrates commitment to FOCUS-Nepal core values. 
  • Display cultural, gender, religious, ethnicity and age sensitivity and adaptability. 
  • Prioritise the work, be able to multitask and have a will to go the extra mile to support the job demands. 
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy confidentiality concerning with clients.

SCOPE OF DUTIES

The main objectives of this assignment are as follows: - 

  • Provide psychosocial counseling and orientations on the basis of need.
  • Keep an updated record of each individual client and maintain an effective documentation system.
  • Network with another service center for referral of critical cases.
  • Communicate or cooperate with related organizations, and institutes to avail the services, which might be helpful for the clients.
  • Prepare reports for organizational documentation and references

The Counsellor shall, however, ensure that the services carried out fully adequate to attain the objective set out in above Key Responsibility of this Term of Reference (TOR).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Counsellor would be fully involved and support to Focal person in planning, need assessment and  formulation of  monitoring  check list 
  • Counselor is expected to have a close coordination with the Focal person and community people in the respective field and should offer any suggestion related to the project for the betterment.
  • Undertake assessments and provide counseling and referral services in the community.
  • Conduct community based psychosocial orientation and sensitization program.
  • Maintain case documentation.
  • Participate in weekly project coordination meetings and weekly peer supervision and support meetings.
  • Reports to the Project Focal person 
  • Follow the inputs and additional responsibilities provided by Focal person when it comes for strategic benefits to the project.

COMMUNICATION AND REPORTING LINES

  • The Counselor reports to Focal Person on all aspects of job performance.

EXPECTED DELIVERABLES

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of the clients.
  • Building rapport with local stakeholders and community groups to identify counseling needs.

DURATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The estimated time for the assignment is for 1 year and possibilities of extension as per project need. The contract shall be terminated if the project does not need the services due to the project’s internal management or unsatisfactory performance of the counselor as evaluated by the organization. 

  • FOCUS Nepal will serve fifteen (15) days' written notice to the Counselor if to terminate his/her service and the same would be applicable for the Counselor if to terminate the contract with FOCUS Nepal.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED IN THE POSITION

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with one year of work experience 
  • Completed minimum high school (+2) level with Six months course on psychosocial care and support and 3 years relevant experience. 
  • Ready to movement on hard to reach area of rural context  
  • Good knowledge in documentation, report writing.
  • Tactfulness and excellent interpersonal skills 
  • Good communication skills both in English and Nepali

Ability and willingness to work in team and to work under pressure and in remote/difficult circumstances
