POSITION TITLE: Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Trainee

LOCATION: Each to be based in Dhangadi, Nepalgunj and Bharatpur

REPORTS TO: Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning Manager

DURATION: 6 Months

USAID Agricultural Inputs is a five-year USAID-funded Feed the Future (FTF) activity in Nepal. The aim of USAID Agricultural Inputs is to increase the availability, accessibility, and use of agricultural inputs and technology to improve Nepal’s agricultural productivity. The Activity is implemented by Winrock International in collaboration with five organizations: Center for Environmental and Agricultural Policy, Research, Extension and Development (CEAPRED), MarketShare Associates (MSA), Pathway Technology, Fertilizer Association Nepal (FAN), and Vikara Institute.

USAID Agricultural Inputs will enable lead firms, agrovets, input suppliers, local machinery service providers, and Government of Nepal (GON) change agents and farmers to increase productivity, input supply chain efficiency, market system competitiveness, and strengthen the enabling environment in a way that equitably addresses the needs of women, youth, and members of marginalized groups. USAID Agricultural Inputs will benefit 200,000 farmers in the USAID Feed the Future (FTF) zone of influence.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The overall objective of the traineeship is for the incumbent to gain knowledge and understanding of the monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems through active involvement with the USAID Agricultural Inputs team. This involvement will include participating in data collection and compiling collected data into defined formats suitable for report writing amongst other.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Collect indicator reporting data and manage as guided by supervisor.
  • Support technical focal persons and MEL focal persons of grantees. 
  • Support Data and GIS Specialist in maintaining master data and other MEL related files and folders. 
  • Support MEL team in document assessment of local grantees.
  • Data collection and enter as per need of USAID Agricultural Inputs MEL team’s requirement. 
  • Field visit and monitor the project activities and report to the MEL team. 
  • Learn and get trained in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning approach of USAID Agricultural Inputs.
  • Report to supervisor about the work progress.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQURIEMENTS:

  • Completion of Bachelor’s degree. Preference will be given to candidates having bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Social Work, Development Studies, or Statistics.  
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft office package including Word and Excel.
  • Basic knowledge on monitoring, evaluation and learning will add value. 
  • Willingness to learn about project Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning.
  • Interest in exploring tablet-based data collection tools and approaches.   
  • Fluent Nepali is required. Advanced English is preferable.
  • Preferably should be from the same cluster.
  • Willing to travel to the field.

DURATION, LOCATION AND REPORTING

The duration of the traineeship will be for six months starting on or about May 2024. The Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Trainee will report to the MEL Manager. Each position will be based in Dhangadi, Nepalgunj and Bharatpur but will require frequent travel to the Activity’s 16 focus districts.

FACILITIES/UTILITIES, STIPEND AND LOGISTICS:

The trainees selected will be expected to work from the USAID Agricultural Inputs regional/cluster Office. The Activity will arrange in-country travel to the field.  Per diem, including lodging and meals and incidentals (M&IE) will be reimbursed for applicable number of travel days as per USAID Agricultural Inputs policies.  

The trainees selected to participate in the program will each be provided a monthly stipend during the traineeship.
