About the project
Nepali Yuwa in Climate Action and Green Growth (TheYouthCAN.org) project is funded by the European Union to promote the involvement of young Nepali people in green growth, environmental protection, and combatting climate change. TheYouthCAN.org is a four-year-long project that will be implemented in Madhesh Province, Karnali Province, and Sudurpaschim Province through the consortium partners Youth Innovation Lab (YI-LAB), Restless Development Nepal, CREASION, and CDMS.
TheYouthCAN.org focuses on working with young people, and empowering and providing them with a platform to aid towards the post-COVID recovery and development process. Furthermore, the activities under Climate Fellowship, Climate Smart Entrepreneurship, Mentee-mentorship, Digital Advocacy, and Youth Sounding Board work towards empowering young people, providing them employment opportunities, generating innovative ideas to address climate and environmental issues, and advocating for policy changes to promote environmental protection.

Job Description
A GIS Associate needs to have a combination of technical as well leadership skills. A bachelor’s degree in Geomatics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environment Science, or a related field is required. S/he will be responsible for leading the OSM mapping of nine project municipalities of Sudurpashchim Province, providing GIS training sessions, and preparing participatory GIS Maps of the project municipalities at the ward level.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge in using GIS tools, and mathematical skills to measure, organize, and analyze collected data;
- Knowledge of shapefiles and geo-database preparation, coordinate system transformation and spatial analysis;
- Processing .kmz files in web interfaces;
- Knowledge of programming languages like Python along with data-related libraries like Matplotlib, csv, pandas is an additional advantage;
- Knowledge of map-based data visualization software like Tableau; knowledge of chart and chart implementation is a plus;
- Good understanding of OpenStreetMap;
- Problem-solving skills;
- Accuracy and attention to detail;
- Team-working skills; and
- Verbal and Written communication skills.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Engage in mapping and spatial analysis through the use of GIS software and other relevant available tools;
- Preparation of Geodatabase and visualization of data;
- Apply cartographic skills to design attractive and informative maps;
- Documentation of GIS-based projects;
- OSM Mapping and Validation;
- Perform Ad-hoc tasks as delegated by the Project Lead and Fellowship Coordinator.
