Community and Rural Development Society Nepal (CARDSN) is a non-governmental organization established in 2054 BS with the purpose to support and empower the most vulnerable, poor, and underprivileged population through sustainable interventions for children, youth, and women. It has been working in partnership with different INGO, government bodies and local government for income generation, water supply and sanitation, infrastructure development, social mobilization, GESI and advocacy and good governance.

Community and Rural Development Society Nepal (CARDSN) is a non-profit and non-governmental organization working in Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts of Nepal since two decades. CARDSN/OXFAM Partnership Program is a Humanitarian Assistant Program for Earthquake affected people of different VDCs of Nuwakot. The program requires staffs in following different capacities:

JOB DESCRIPTION

Reports to: Program Coordinator/Executive Director

Job Purpose: To support the program in working areas in enhancing their capacity to meet the Minimum Standards on Gender for Humanitarian, so that the different needs of men, women, boys, and girls affected by crisis can be addressed.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with humanitarian field teams to ensure access of women at risk and vulnerable to CARDSN/Oxfam’s response, recovery and rehabilitation work;
  • Work within the WASH, EFSVL, shelter and DRR teams including MEAL as a team member to better mainstreaming the gender and protection concerns from a programmatic perspective, taking into account the needs of men, women, girls and boys;
  • Work to familiarise Oxfam’s principles and approaches of  gender in emergencies minimum standards and protection guidelines to program staffs;
  • Provide the specialist gender and protection advice and support to CARDSN/Oxfam earthquake response in Nuwakot ensuring independence and impartiality in providing services;
  • Build the capacity of women within the community to promote their meaningful participation and leadership role in different forums and committees in the communities through partner;
  • Mentoring and coaching program staff in gender and protection;
  • Lead in integrating gender and protection into MEAL; set specific indicator for process monitoring and follow up, advise team in getting gender specific information through spot monitoring and joint monitoring;
  • Ensure knowledge management; documentation of  gender and protection related documents, case study and best practices;
  • Ensure sex , age and caste based disaggregating data are collected through all the thematic areas and documented; for example, snapshot of district;
  • Act as a focal point/representative on Gender at CARDSN operation area for enhancing sharing, linking and learning process with field teams, relevant technical/thematic issues, as well as coordination with external concerned people and authority;
  • Be an active member of CARDSN/Oxfam’s humanitarian response team; participate in CARDSN/Oxfam’s internal gender and protection peer group, staff meetings and planning sessions. Advocate Gender issue in working VDCs.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor's degree in development studies, social studies or relevant discipline with 2 years of experience;
  • Knowledge of gender and gender equality;
  • Experience in field coordination, monitoring and follow up;
  • Experience in event management and coordination;
  • Highly skilled in report writing;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Nepali including demonstrable ability to work with others and as part of a team;
  • Knowledge and skills in computer usage including word, excel, power point, and social media;
  • Willingness to travel for sustained periods of time;
  • Good organizational skills;
  • Effective member of team and role model; demonstrates creativity in seeking better ways to do things and shares with team, and promotes high standards.
  • Takes responsibility for own work and delegated project/processes (including some leadership);
  • Anticipates problems and regularly provides solutions.
