Background:
iDE Nepal is currently implementing two nutrition-sensitive projects: Mother Child Well- Being (MCW), and Transforming Lives Through Nutrition (TLTN). MCW project is being implemented in consortium with CARE Nepal; and TLTN project in consortium with Helen Keller International.
In partnership with local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), the TLTN project is being implemented in Nawalparasi West, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, and Dang districts directly benefiting over 10,000 malnourished, poor and marginalized households. The project addresses both nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive issues at target areas.
The POSHAN (Mother Child Wellbeing - MCW) project is a multi-year initiative designed to improve the nutritional status and overall well being of mothers and children in Nepal. POSHAN (meaning nutrition in Nepali) aims to address the persistent issue of malnutrition among mothers and children in some of Nepal’s most vulnerable communities, where food insecurity, poverty, and limited access to health services contribute to high rates of undernutrition and stunting. The project recognizes that improving maternal and child nutrition requires not only access to adequate food but also changes in behavior, improved health services, gender equity, and sustainable livelihoods.
The overarching goal of POSHAN is to promote maternal and child wellbeing through integrated, multisectoral interventions. The project is currently being implemented in five districts: Banke, Kailali, Surkhet, Dailekh and Rautahat, where indicators of malnutrition and maternal and child health are among the worst in the country.
