Position Title: Executive Director

Organization: Society for Integrated Allied Nepal (SIAN)

Location: Kathmandu with frequent travel to program areas, Nepal

Reporting To: Chairperson

Background:

The Society for Integrated Allied Nepal (SIAN) is a national NGO that was established in 2004 with the aim of promoting inclusive development, democracy, and human resource development by addressing health and nutrition, WASH, education, and access to opportunities for local communities. SIAN is an autonomous, non- political, and non-profit organization run by representatives of civil society and development professionals who actively work in rural development, health and nutrition, WASH, GEDSI, Climate change, Social Inclusion, education, human rights, inclusive democracy, child rights, livelihood, gender, and environmental issues. SIAN is committed to community-driven solutions that address the challenges faced by marginalized populations and promote sustainable development.

Job Summary:

The Executive Director (ED) will provide strategic leadership, oversee overall operations, and ensure the effective implementation of programs in alignment with SIAN’s mission and goals. Particularly, ED will be responsible to deliver results in the program components of Agriculture and Nutrition, WASH, Child Rights Governance and Child Protection, food security, women and girl child rights, Dalit and indigenous rights. while representing the organization and maintaining strong relationships with local communities, government stakeholders and funding agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Develop, implement, and periodically review the organization's strategic plan, ensuring alignment with its mission and vision.
  • Provide visionary leadership to the organization, fostering a culture of innovation, impact, and accountability.
  • Monitor trends and developments in thematic areas of the organization to inform strategic planning and program development.
  • Ensure the organization's programs are effective, impactful, and responsive to the needs of the communities served.

2. Fundraising & Resource Mobilization

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to secure diverse funding streams (grants, individual donors, corporate sponsorships, events, etc.).
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
  • Oversee the preparation of compelling grant proposals, reports, and donor communications.
  • Represent the organization at fundraising events and donor meetings.
  • Diversify funding sources to ensure the long-term sustainability of the organization.

3. Financial Management & Oversight

  • Ensure sound financial management, including budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance with all relevant regulations and donor requirements.
  • Work with the Admin and Finance Manager to develop and monitor annual budgets, ensuring responsible allocation of resources.
  • Provide regular financial updates and reports to the Board of the organization.
  • Oversee audits and ensure financial transparency and accountability.

4. Program Development & Management

  • Guide the development and implementation of high-quality programs that align with the organization's mission and strategic plan.
  • Ensure effective monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) systems are in place to assess program impact and inform improvements.
  • Foster a culture of results-based management and continuous program improvement.
  • Represent the organization externally in program-related forums and partnerships.

5. Human Resources & Organizational Development

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a high-performing senior management team and staff.
  • Oversee the recruitment, retention, and professional development of all employees.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment that attracts and retains top talent.
  • Develop and implement the organizational policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all labor laws and regulations.

6. Board Relations & Governance

  • Act as the primary liaison between the staff and the Board of Directors, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Support the Board in its governance responsibilities, including strategic planning, policy development, and fiduciary oversight.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to the Board on organizational performance, financial status, and key initiatives.
  • Facilitate effective board meetings and support board recruitment and development efforts.

7. Communications & External Relations

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson and public face of the organization representing the organization to stakeholders, partners, the media, and the public.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to raise the organization's profile and advocate for its mission.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, peer organizations, community leaders, and other key stakeholders.
  • Advocate for policy changes and public awareness relevant to the organization's mission.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Public Administration, Social Sciences, International Development, Business Administration, Project Management or a related field with a minimum of overall 10 years of experience, within which applicants must have at least 4 years of experience in a senior management role in a Non-Governmental Organization. 

Skills:

  • Exceptional leadership, team-building, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience with budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and translate vision into actionable plans.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • High level of integrity, diplomacy, and professionalism.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office and accounting software).
  • Fluency in Nepali and English languages.

Terms and Conditions:

Contract Type: Full-time, renewable based on performance and availability of fund

Duration: Initially 1-year with applicable probation period 

Salary and benefits: Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications and Standard benefits package according to SIAN’s organizational policies
