Panchtara Yuwa Samrakshak Manch (PTYSM) is a non-profit, non-governmental humanitarian and development organization registered with the District Administration Office, Jajarkot, and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council of Nepal. Established in 1997, PTYSM is led by committed young development professionals and social workers with extensive experience in rural development and community-based initiatives.

PTYSM operates across Karnali Province with programmatic focus on food security and nutrition, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), livelihoods and resilience building, education, disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate change and adaptation(CCA), humanitarian response, protection, and disability inclusion. The organization is guided by the principles of equity, inclusion, and resilience, ensuring meaningful participation and benefits for women, disadvantaged groups, and persons with disabilities.

In partnership with Save the Children International, PTYSM has been implementing the Improved Cookstove (ICS) Project in Chhedagad Municipality of Jajarkot District. The project aims to promote clean and efficient cooking technologies while improving health, environmental sustainability, and livelihoods at the community level.

Project Objectives

The ICS Project aims to:

  • Test and identify suitable improved cookstove models that match local cooking practices, are durable, safe, and widely accepted by households.
  • Generate reliable data on stove efficiency, user satisfaction, and emission reductions.
  • Develop and refine a scalable implementation model, including distribution systems, maintenance mechanisms, and behavior change strategies that encourage long-term adoption.
  • Ensure that the model complements existing community programs and lays the groundwork for a future carbon-financed scale-up initiative.
  • Assess stove adoption, usability, safety, and durability through testing in real household settings.
  • Develop a community-led delivery model with strong participation of families, youth groups, entrepreneurs, and local government, ensuring positive impacts for women and children.

Position: Field Officer

Location: PTYSM Field Office, Thalaha, Jajarkot (with approximately 60% field visits to project locations)

Contract Length: 9 months (Extension depends on fund availability and working performance)

Role Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Field Officer will lead and oversee field-level implementation of the Improved Cookstove (ICS) Project. The position will ensure effective mobilization, coordination, and engagement with community-level stakeholders including households, youth clubs, entrepreneurs, and local government bodies. The role will also represent PTYSM and the project at community and municipal levels.

Role Dimensions

This is a key position responsible for ensuring effective implementation and achievement of project outcomes related to smokeless and improved cooking technologies, contributing to improved health, environmental protection, and climate resilience.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Forestry with at least 3 years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Environment, Natural Resource Management, Social Science, or related fields with minimum 1 year of relevant experience in climate, forestry, or energy-related projects.
  • Experience in community-based project implementation, preferably in climate change, forestry, or clean energy initiatives.
  • Knowledge of clean cooking technologies and carbon financing mechanisms will be an added advantage.
  • Strong skills in monitoring, data collection, documentation, and reporting.
  • Excellent communication skills in Nepali and English, including the ability to facilitate trainings and workshops.
  • Willingness and ability to frequently travel to remote project locations.
