Akasha Traineeship Program

For our “Akasha Traineeship” Program for women in the greater Suntakhan area (Gokarneshwor), Akasha Academy NGO is currently looking for an Education Program Coordinator. The Akasha Traineeship is an innovative, first of its kind education program offered by Akasha Academy with a range of national and international partners. The vision is to empower, educate and enable women to become change makers. The program consists of a 10-months vocational training in topics of health, society, and environment for girls and women after grade 12.

The curriculum follows an interdisciplinary approach to identify challenges and practical solutions in these topics. It also includes universal ethics, physical training, communication, and community engagement. Thus, participants gain relevant skills to support local families towards a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle in the region, e.g. working as community mobilizers. At the same time, the program serves as an orientation year, where students discover and develop of their strengths and abilities, gain insights into possible further career paths and job opportunities and start to establish a network of international NGOs and companies. . We wish to offer a vocational training that inspires and empowers young ladies to become self-confident and responsible adults.

 

Role of the position

The role of the Education Program Coordinator will include the coordination and management of the education program as well as preparation of and contribution to the training itself. For the position, regular presence at the training center in Suntakhan (Gokarneshwor) will be required. Overall teaching hours will be 6 hours per working day. As a management position in an education program according to Nepali and German standards, it can be a steppingstone for a further career in health and education management. You will support to develop and facilitate an innovative approach that lies the foundation for young women to make their own choices in life and become responsible and strong multipliers for positive change in their local communities and beyond.

 

Contract period

12 months, July 2021 – July 2022, extension envisioned

 

 

Tasks and responsibilities

You will

  • be responsible for overall management of the training program, including scheduling of the training units, in coordination with the trainers and members of contributing NGOs,
  • contribute to the development of curricula and design training plans and modules to deliver content to pre-defined groups of learners,
  • contribute to the training itself,
  • develop advanced, scenario-based workshops,
  • support and coordinate field trips and workshops at local schools and households,
  • monitor and report
  • be an interface towards the local authorities and contributing NGOs,
  • be a contact person and confidant for the students,
  • administer and document the training and the individual progress of the students.

Optionally, you may

  • contribute to the selection of trainers,
  • track, supervise, and manage the quality of the training.

 

Required skills and experience

You should have

  • successfully completed at least Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Education, Health Management, Social Mobilization, gender studies or another relevant field
  • Expertise in at least one of the following areas: education, health sciences, medicine, social sciences, community engagement
  • relevant experience in management of and technical direction to education projects and/or programs in Nepal
  • Experience in curriculum and training design
  • excellent communication skills towards students, trainers and other team members, as well as stakeholders from the contributing NGOs and supporting authorities,
  • work experience in community engagement and youth mobilization, planning and conducting trainings, workshops, and other activities
  • the ability to work within a team of different social and cultural backgrounds,
  • the capability to manage schedules of multiple topics and trainers and to manage unexpected situations calmly and in a flexible way,
  • reliability and loyalty,
  • the aspiration to contribute to a positive change, e.g. by inspiring and encouraging our students
  • a strong identification and commitment towards the overall project aim and the work of Akasha Academy NGO,
  • solid command of Nepali and English languages, both written and verbal,
  •  

Ideally, you have

  • several years of experience in social mobilization and education management,
  • experience in project management, reporting and budgeting,
  • the competence to co-develop training content in an interdisciplinary way
  • experience with the MS Office suite.
