JOB SUMMARY:
The Communication Coordinator at KOSHISH leads and implements communication strategies to promote mental health, psychosocial well-being, and the rights of persons with psychosocial disabilities in Nepal. Working closely with Program, MEAL, Fundraising, and Finance teams, the role ensures effective, ethical, and rights-based documentation and communication of program impact and learning.
The position strengthens KOSHISH’s visibility, advocacy, and public engagement through quality communication materials, stakeholder and media engagement, and compliance with organizational and donor branding and visibility requirements, while upholding safeguarding principles and the dignity of people represented in KOSHISH’s work
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Organizational Development:
Planning and implementation:
- Review and finalize the communication strategy of KOSHISH and implement them effectively.
- Develop and implement annual communications plan, which involves setting objectives, generating concepts, analyzing audience insight, managing and ensuring successful prioritization and delivery of communications activities, ensuring ethical practices, and evaluating their effectiveness.
- Develop branding guidelines/ integrate it in the communication strategy of KOSHISH and implement them effectively.
- Support to develop institutional memory of the organization and update organizational profile on a periodic basis.
- Maintain repository of all communication materials of KOSHISH through systematic and secure storage.
- Review organizational documents and prepare plans to enhance systematic documentation.
- Coordinate with the project team in developing and integrating communications plans in specific program projects and activities, encouraging creativity across all mediums.
- Manage necessary resources to effectively design and deliver targeted and high-impact communication strategy to promote the work and impact of KOSHISH.
- Support to develop strategic partnerships with government institutions, donors, and development organizations.
Management of digital platforms:
- Responsible for social media management across all KOSHISH social media channels and generating monthly analytical reports on social media and website performance.
- Develop and implement short-term and long-term social media strategies; and manage social media platforms, including creating and sharing relevant digital posts.
- Lead overall website management, including regular content updates, uploading new program updates, stories, reports, events, resources, and news to ensure the website remains current, accurate, and reflective of KOSHISH’s ongoing work and impact.
- Coordinate with the consultant for website development and ensure that the new website is rolled out in a timely manner.
- Ensure strategic use of digital communication platforms and lead on the delivery of digital activity in creating and posting, including designing social media campaigns, producing multimedia pieces, blogs and web stories, and social media posts to promote the impact and outcome from KOSHISH’s programs.
Production and Dissemination:
- Lead the development of contents, designing and publication of monthly, bi-monthly, and quarterly newsletters and organizational annual report in collaboration with other units and project teams in KOSHISH.
- Lead the timely finalization and dissemination of the KOSHISH Annual Report of 2025 (covering key achievements, program impacts, financial overview, advocacy milestones, and stories from 2025), including coordinating data and content inputs from Program, MEAL, and Finance teams; overseeing design, layout, editing, ethical storytelling, and branding compliance; ensuring final approval; and proactive dissemination through website upload, social media promotion, email newsletters, printed copies to stakeholders/donors/partners/government bodies, media outreach, and other channels to maximize reach and visibility.
- Lead the production or generation of any sort of audio-visual or graphics materials produced by the organization, ensuring ethical practices, and maintaining quality as well as its alignment with the organization's branding and visibility.
- Develop content and materials for fundraising for the organization in collaboration with the Fundraising unit.
- Review and develop standard templates for the organization for PowerPoint presentation, case stories development and reports in collaboration with program and MEAL units.
- Coordinate with the project team in designing, reviewing, polishing, and finalizing text, audio, and visual materials produced by the team members including but not limited to success stories, photographs, video, and social media content.
- Ensure proper representation of the organization with editorial contacts, donor agencies, and other key stakeholders when required along with providing timely updates.
- Develop learning documents and infographics in collaboration with program and MEAL units.
Capacity development of staffs on developing communication materials
- Develop photography and videography package for guiding organization staff on taking good and photographs and videos and commitment to ethical practice in collection of footage and its use.
- Provide periodic orientation to staff on writing for news, success stories, social media post etc.
- Provide periodic orientation to staff on good photography and ethical considerations.
Awareness and sensitization:
- Develop plan for awareness campaigns in collaboration with other units, with specific reference to prominent national and international days related to health, mental health, disability, and human rights.
- Develop PSAs, IEC, BCC and relevant materials and produce audio/visual contents for mass awareness and sensitization in close coordination with the concerned team members.
- Lead media mobilization, including (radio/TV programs) for awareness and sensitization on mental health and psychosocial disability.
Qualification & Essential Skills
- Education:
- Master’s degree in communications, Mass Media, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- Experience:
- At least 5 years of professional experience in communication, preferably within NGOs or development organizations.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Proven expertise in designing and implementing communication tools, strategies, and training programs.
- Strong writing and editing skills for developing reports, stories, news content, and other organizational materials in both Nepali and English.
- Proficiency in digital communication, including social media management, website content development, and graphic design basics.
- Knowledge of ethical considerations in storytelling and reporting, particularly in the context of sensitive issues like mental health and human rights.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Exceptional interpersonal and team collaboration abilities, with a focus on capacity building and mentoring.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with design tools like Canva, Adobe Illustrator, or Photoshop is a plus.
