Call for Application: Gender Consultant for Gender Analysis of the British Council’s TVET sector priorities in Nepal 

Background

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. Through our arts, education and English programmes, we give opportunities to hundreds of millions of people worldwide each year. We are on the ground in six continents and over 100 countries. The British Council has been operating in Nepal since 1959. 

British Council’s work in Technical Education and Vocational Training (TVET) in Nepal involves working with both public and private sector to support in system strengthening, partnerships to support improve relevance of TVET provisions, and partnership for development of the green skills. The British Council works with Nepali and UK partners to support TVET sector development in Nepal. 

British Council is seeking a national consultant to conduct a gender analysis in the context of TVET system in Nepal, focusing on British Council priorities in TVET sector. The findings and recommendations from this analysis will enable us to embed gender considerations into our current programming.

About the role

The gender analysis will help to support to better understand and embed gender considerations into British Council’s current and future work on TVET. The analysis will primarily be based on desk review with some stakeholder consultations. Through this analysis we wish to understand:

  • Why gender issues in TVET are important in Nepal. The impact of TVET provision on women and girls in Nepal with an intersectional focus (gender minorities, people with disabilities, and from ethnic minority groups).
  • Opportunities and barriers from the TVET system and employment to women and other disadvantaged groups, specially focusing on priorities of British Council TVET programme including in public private partnerships in TVET and green skills.  
  • Strategies and actions to mainstream gender into the current and future TVET programming. 

The gender consultant will also provide support to a Green TVET Roadmap development process by assessing the roadmap from gender sensitivity lens.

Consultant Eligibility Criteria

The consultant should have:

  • University degree in Gender Studies or other relevant social science
  • More than 10 years of experience in the field of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI). Experience of the context in Nepal or South Asia is an advantage. 
  • Demonstrable experience in conducting gender analysis (please include links to published gender analysis reports) 
  • Experience in Education, TVET and / or labour market sector
