Details / requirements:

For Internal and External Release

Project Sarangi Foundation is a community-driven, non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, revitalization, and promotion of Nepal’s traditional musical heritage, while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for marginalized communities. Rooted in the belief that cultural heritage can be a powerful driver of economic empowerment, the foundation works to bridge traditional craftsmanship with contemporary markets, enabling artisans to sustain both their craft and their livelihoods.

Currently, with the support of the Australian Embassy Direct Aid Program, Project Sarangi Foundation is implementing the project “Strings Across Borders: Training Artisans for Cultural Export and Diaspora Engagement.” This initiative aims to strengthen sustainable livelihoods for marginalized youth and women by providing structured, hands-on training in Sarangi craftsmanship, complemented by entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and market linkage support. The project adopts a holistic approach by combining skill development with production, quality standardization, and access to diaspora and international world-music markets. It emphasizes inclusion by prioritizing participation from marginalized communities, particularly women and traditionally underrepresented groups. By integrating cultural preservation with income generation, the project seeks to establish a sustainable and replicable model that enables participants to transition from training to independent production and long-term livelihood opportunities.
