Hiring of Consultant for Conducting Training on Mushroom Cultivation and Vegetable Production for Youths

1. Background

RRPK is non-governmental, nonprofit making social development organization, established in 2061 BS (2004 AD) by a team of active professionals with long experience in the field of integrated community development, health, disability, community forestry, micro-finance, gender empowerment, good governance, child rights, livelihood, safe migration, DRR and WASH. RRPK is registered under Society Registration Act, 2034, at the District Administration Office of Sarlahi. It is affiliated with the Social Welfare Council (SWC) Nepal and member of NGOCC and Federation Sarlahi. RRPK started its social development programme in Sarlahi district from 2005. 

RRPK has been implementing ABHA Project in Kaudena, Chakarghata RM, Basbariya RM and Dhankaul RM in Sarlahi district From February 2025 with the partnership of Plan International Nepal to empower adolescents and young women through education, livelihood, and improving sexual and reproductive health. One of the objectives of the project is to empower economically households of adolescent and youths especially women through providing market relevant skills for sustainable livelihood. The proposed training participants have already received life skills and business skill development training.

2. Objective of the Assignment

The overall objective of this consultancy is to build the capacity of selected youths on mushroom cultivation and vegetable production through practical, market-oriented, and skill-based training.

Specific objectives include:

  • To provide technical knowledge on production, management, and harvesting of mushrooms and vegetables.
  • To build participants’ capacity in farm planning, input management, pest/disease control, and post-harvest handling.
  • To orient participants on entrepreneurship, marketing, and record keeping for small-scale agribusiness.

3. Scope of Work

The consultant will be responsible for:

  • Finalize training schedule considering current market needs and gaps of Mushroom farming and vegetable production. 
  • Prepare the list of training materials need for theory and practical session with demonstration
  • Conduct training with theoretic and practical session with demonstration 
  • Prepare training completion report with participant list, pre-post evaluation summary, key learnings, and recommendations.
  • Preparing training materials, handouts, and visual aids in Nepali and or local language.

Facilitating sessions on:

  • Mushroom cultivation (seed/spawn preparation, substrate preparation, incubation, harvesting, and packaging, value chain)
  • Vegetable production (nursery management, improved varieties, pest/disease control, irrigation, nutrient management, harvesting, and marketing)

4. Expected Deliverables

  • Sharing the Training content and daily schedule Before training 
  • Delivery of 7-day training – During assignment period (including practical sessions).
  • Final training report – Within 5 days after completion (with photos, evaluation, and recommendations).

5. Duration and Location

  • Duration: Per event 7 days of training including theoretical and practical sessions
  • Location: Sarlahi District.
  • Tentative Date: 20 November (Starting)

6. Required Qualification and Experience

The consultant/trainer should possess:

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture (preferably with specialization in horticulture or plant science).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in conducting agricultural or livelihood-related training.
  • Proven expertise in mushroom cultivation and vegetable farming techniques.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills with youth and farmers.
  • Experience preparing training materials and reports in Nepali.

7. Reporting and Coordination

The consultant will report to the Project Coordinator and work closely with field staff for participant mobilization and logistics arrangements.

8. Payment Modality

  • The consultant will be paid upon submission and approval of the final training report and all deliverables.
  • The payment will be made in one installment after successful completion of the assignment and approval by the project.

9. Ethical Considerations

The consultant shall adhere to the organization’s child protection, safeguarding, and code of conduct policies during the entire assignment. All training content should be gender-sensitive and inclusive.

10. Application Procedure

Interested and qualified consultants are requested to submit the following:

  • Updated CV highlighting relevant experience
  • Technical proposal (training methodology and work plan)
  • Financial proposal (including daily consultancy rate and total budget)

Technical/financial proposal received after the specified date and time of the invitation will not be considered.
