1. Background
Multi-dimensional Action for Development (MADE) Nepal is implementing the “Transboundary Community Resilience Project in South Asia” in Susta Rural Municipality of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta West) District in partnership with LWF Nepal. The project aims to establish and strengthen community-based Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Response (DRR/ER) institutions.
MADE Nepal is planning to deliver a three day training to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and coordination capacity of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) volunteers from LWF implementing partners. The initiative aims to build a common understanding and standardized approach to disaster preparedness, response, and community engagement across project areas.
By equipping youth volunteers with practical knowledge on DRR, Climate Change Adaptation (CCA), Climate Justice, WASH, and Environmental Protection, the program seeks to enhance community resilience and ensure effective local-level response mechanisms.
2. Objectives of the Training
- Strengthen foundational knowledge on DRR, CCA, Climate Justice, WASH, and Environmental Protection
- Build practical skills on early warning systems, first response, and community-based disaster preparedness
- Enhance youth leadership and community mobilization capacity
- Encourage youth engagement in climate and environmental actions at community level
3. Scope of Work
The selected trainer/consultant will be responsible for:
- Designing and customizing a comprehensive 3-day training package
- Preparing training materials, presentations, and practical exercises tailored to local context
- Developing and submitting a concise list of training topics during proposal submission
- Facilitating the full 3-day training using participatory and practical methods
- Incorporating simulations, group work, and field-based exercises where applicable
- Conducting pre- and post-training assessments
- Submitting a brief training completion report with key outcomes and recommendations
4. Training Duration and Modality
Duration: 3 days
Modality: In-person, participatory, and practice-oriented
Participants: Youth volunteers from LWF implementing partners
5. Tentative Training Content Areas
The trainer is expected to refine and finalize the content; however, key areas include:
- Introduction to DRR concepts and frameworks
- Hazard, vulnerability, and risk assessment
- Community-based disaster risk management (CBDRM)
- Early warning systems and communication protocols
- First response and basic emergency preparedness
- Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) practices at local level
- Climate Justice principles and local relevance
- WASH in emergencies and public health considerations
- Environmental protection and sustainable practices
- Youth leadership and community mobilization techniques
- Coordination mechanisms among stakeholders
6. Deliverables
- Customized training agenda
- Training facilitation for 3 days
- Final training report
7. Required Qualifications
- Degree in Disaster Management, Environmental Science, Climate Change, Public Health, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in DRR, CCA, WASH, or related sectors
- Proven experience in conducting similar training for youth or community volunteers
- Strong facilitation and participatory training skills
- Experience working with NGOs/INGOs and multi-partner projects
8. Reporting
The trainer will report to the designated focal person from MADE Nepal.
9. Proposal Submission Requirements
