Background:
Action for Nepal (AF Nepal), registered as a Non-Profit Distributing Company (RNO: 147077/072/073) in Nepal, is dedicated to advancing the development of remote communities by enhancing health, education, and empowering locals to achieve sustainability. As a community-centric organization, AF Nepal remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering healthy and educated communities throughout Nepal.
With funding support from the Himalayan Trust UK (HTUK), AF Nepal is implementing the "Promoting Health in Schools" project in Phaktanglung and Sirijangha Rural Municipalities of Taplejung District. The project aims to improve health literacy and outcomes among school-going adolescents by providing teachers with training on various health and education topics, enabling them to effectively deliver these sessions within their regular classrooms. Additionally, the project focuses on developing and implementing structured, school-based health promotion activities.
Objective: The main objective of this consultancy is to design and deliver a comprehensive 5-day teacher training program on health promotion. This training will equip teachers and GEDSI (Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion) focal teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to provide structured, age-appropriate health education aligned with Nepal’s national school curriculum, promote sustainable health practices among students and their communities, and ensure the program’s sustainability beyond the project period.
Number of Consultants: 2 consultants will be engaged for this assignment to jointly design and facilitate the training program.
Scope of Work:
The consultants will be responsible for designing and delivering a comprehensive training program covering the following key areas:
A. Training Design and Curriculum Alignment:
Develop a detailed 5-day training curriculum that aligns with:
- National school curriculum (grades 6–10) for seamless integration into existing subjects (Health & Physical Education, Social Studies)
- Teacher resource material on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) developed by Center for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD)
- ASRH booklets, resources, and IEC materials on communicable and non-communicable diseases, nutrition, and hygiene developed by the National Health Education, Information, and Communication Centre (NHEICC).
- Ensure topics are structured progressively (e.g., basic hygiene for younger grades, ASRH for older students).
B. Training Content (Key Modules)
C. Training Delivery:
- Conduct the 5-day Health Promotion Teacher Training (HPTT) for 20 participants (Selected teacher from Faktanglung and Shrijanga RM).
- Use interactive and participatory training methods, such as demonstrations, role-playing, and group discussions.
- Administer pre- and post-training assessments to evaluate knowledge gain and training effectiveness.
D. Training Materials:
- Prepare training materials, including presentations, handouts, and activity guides.
- Ensure materials are culturally appropriate, gender-sensitive, and tailored to the local context.
E. Follow-up and Support:
- Provide recommendations for a 1-day follow-up training session to reinforce skills and address gaps.
- Suggest strategies for integrating health promotion into the school curriculum and daily activities.
F. Sustainability Plan
- Prepare a sustainability plan that ensures the continued capacity development of teachers and the regular delivery of sessions beyond the project period.
Deliverables:
- A finalized 5-day training curriculum, aligned with the national curriculum and relevant guidelines, including resource materials and training manuals developed by the concerned departments of the Government of Nepal, and approved by AF Nepal and relevant stakeholders.
- Training materials (presentations, handouts, and activity guides).
- Pre- and post-training assessment tools and analysis report.
- A comprehensive training report, including participant feedback, key outcomes, and recommendations for future training.
- Sustainability roadmap (how schools will continue post-project).
Duration: The consultancy will include 5 days of training delivery, with additional time allocated for curriculum development, material preparation, and report writing; the total number of consultancy days will be discussed and finalized accordingly.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Education, or a related field.
- Certified trainer certificate from the relevant authority
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in designing and delivering health promotion or teacher training programs in Nepal.
- Familiarity with Nepal’s school health policies, national school curriculum, and the National School Health and Nutrition Strategy.
- Proven experience in gender-sensitive and disability-inclusive training approaches.
- Excellent facilitation and communication skills.
Reporting: The consultants will report directly to the Program Director at Action for Nepal and collaborate closely with the AF Nepal project team, including the Health Officer and Program Coordinator.
Budget: AF Nepal will provide a budget for the consultancy, covering fees, travel, accommodation, and any other relevant expenses.
