Training to SMC/PTA members on gender transformation approach

1. Background

SAHAYATRA project is implementing by Jan Jagaran Yuwa Club (JJYC) Bara for 42 months (Jan 2021 - Jun 2024) under the leadership of VSO Nepal and funded by European Union (EU) in 8 municipalities of four districts (Bara, Rautahat, Parsa, and Sarlahi) of Madhesh Province, Nepal. SAHAYATRA project ensures in strengthening civil society organization for better resilient and inclusive education governance of Nepal. This project aims to support inclusive quality education for marginalized girls & children with disabilities through resilient, gender-responsive education governance enhanced by CSO engagement. The total beneficiaries of the project are 10,000 students (F 6,000; M 4,000) of 20 schools, who face difficulty accessing quality education and increased vulnerability to violence and dropping out due to the pandemic.  

With the aims to empower School Management Committee (SMC) and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) members with the knowledge and skills necessary for implementing a gender transformation approach within the school environment, JJYC under SAHAYATRA project has planned to provide training on gender transformation approach. Recognizing the importance of fostering gender inclusivity, this training will equip participants to address gender-related issues and promote a more equitable and supportive educational setting.

2. Scope of the assignment 

The Community Schools are still needed to develop their capacity on the approaches which can reduce the gender and social discrimination.  As access to education for all, assurance of quality education, technology-friendly, equal participation, opportunity in education without gender and social discrimination, effective educational management is the main requirement of the education sector at the local level. For sustainable development, compulsory and free education and education related laws, the discrimination is the also a factory which affecting to reach the objective. The discrimination between girls, children with disabilities, vulnerabilities etc being affecting the access to quality education for all. 

The purpose of this assignment is to provide technical knowledge to the community school  SMC and PTA members on the gender transformative approach. The basic training package contents are delivered which can they apply in their respective schools.

3. Outputs/Deliverables

The following deliverables are expected from the consultant in due process of the assignment: 

  • Develop 2 days course outlines, course objectives, major contents, detailing Role, responsibility of SMC based on education act federal or education act /regulation of local, make sure which they are using , local level or Federal level 
  • Their role on SIP, PIM(program implementation guideline 2080/081  contents, delivery approach with PPT slides package as per the schedule and concept and major requirements.
  • Deliver and facilitate 2 days’ workshop in Bara and Rautahat to the SMC and PTA members of the community schools.
  • Develop a comprehensive report including training course, delivery ppt, pre-test and post-test result and post training support after delivery of training sessions in English. 

4. Timeframe and estimated working days

This piece of work requires total 5 days (2 days in Bara and 2 days in Rautahat and 1 day for the preparation) engagement of consultant in Training facilitation. 

The possible day of the training is from 20th Dec to 25th Dec 2023.

Food and accommodation along with travel cost will be provided in actual basis.

5. Qualifications and experience of the consultant

The training should be led by a professional with degree and work background on the capacity development of education sectors. 

  • Minimum a master’s degree in education and social sciences related fields. 
  • At least 3 years’ experience of facilitation the gender transformation approach training or related trainings. 
  • Excellent report writing skills in both English and Nepali.
  • Capacity to present the content in clear and straightforward to the targeted participants at government officials. 

6. Submission of Proposal and budget
